Thanks for finding that! *sigh* Now all we need is cash... But I think we can trust that whoever gets them, will treat them with all due honor and respect. The Bonhams press release has a bit more information, but it mentions a foreign edition of The Hobbit instead of Farmer Giles. These are the suggested bid prices, go to "Start at lot #" 60. And this, from the Tolkien Library, has a bit more about Elaine Griffiths and her extreme importance to all matters Tolkien. With love from all of us, Miss Griffiths.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I desired dragons with a profound desire" "It struck me last night that you might write a fearfully good romantic drama, with as much of the 'supernatural' as you cared to introduce. Have you ever thought of it?" -Geoffrey B. Smith, letter to JRR Tolkien, 1915
I read about the 'graduate student' a dozen times in his letters, but never understood what the heck was going on with it. Something about a sick person who needed something to read was about all I could figure. But how it brought the Hobbit to the publishers is now is clear. Thanks for photo and backstories both.
