They are also up for pre order on Amazon! [In reply to] Can't Post

Better now then never to get a copy Smile

I believe that Azog and Bolg are possibly the only two orcs who may be an exception to the typical evil nature of an orc. Azog had brought up his son, well enough that he actually acknowledges him as his own son. That is a first for any orc. And Bolg sets out to march upon Erebor in vengeance of his fathers death. How many orcs will Try and avenge another dead orc? Most will just forget about the dead one. This gives me hope that Orcs, have some traits of good in them, even if it is small aspects.

Much as I love the teaser posters... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm never a fan of using them for books really. A book cover and film poster/dvd cover are very different entities and I just don't think they look as good as classic illustrations or just simple, elegant designs. Also, the book is very different to the movie which may confuse and dare I say, disappoint many younger, newer readers to the series.

PS: Brian Sibley was astonished that we already have them, as they haven't been made public yet. :)

I share the same opinion [In reply to] Can't Post

Those poster make the books look kinda 'cheap' or not serious. I would like something with a good design, elegant and showing good quality (graphics, text...)

Not impressed with the movie guide.. [In reply to] Can't Post

... Also, the Bilbo picture makes a great poster but not really a good cover imho.

The visual companion is the worst though, imho.

Though looking back at some LotR books.... They always tended to look a bit cheap-ish.

"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien

We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

Now when I read them, they look like 10 older than they really are. Poorimages quality and design too.

the art and design one isn't new technically [In reply to] Can't Post

You could actually see a small preview of the The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Chronicles: Art & Design book in the previous book in the series, but it was still titled "There and Back Again at the time it was printed.

Dare I say catering for the 'casual' fan that's on;y seen the films. Personally I would never buy a book with a movie cover!

Loving them [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm pretty much digging them all quite a bit. I have all of the books on order but I would like to find out how to get the signed version of the movie guide if I could.

AMAZING covers!! [In reply to] Can't Post

So glad they used the Bilbo poster as the tie-in novel cover! That poster just sums up The Hobbit for me, really. And love the Visual Companion cover!

EE color prediction: light grey [In reply to] Can't Post

I now believe that the BOFA EE cover coler will be grey, which is perfect for the film as it will be very wintery and in the old grey ruins of dale.

All of the previous middle-earth films have followed this pattern. The main color for the majority of the merchandise is the color for the EE. Lord of the Rings was the same, and so far for the hobbit it has been this way. The visual companions books and the like for AUJ and DOS were mostly reddish brown and blue-green respectively, and now, while there is some black and some blue, the prevalent color for this final film is certainly light grey. Of course I could be wrong. The DOS OST did not follow suit with this pattern, but instead was given a dark purple coloring. Still, I think it is a very safe bet right now that the BOTFA EE will be grey.

EDIT: Also, the colors so far have seemed to reflect a certain building which is a major piece of the film. In AUJ the brown was like that of Bag-end's interior and the Acorn symbol also reflected Bilbo's home. In DOS the blue-green was like that of Erebor's green stone, and the symbol was that of the Arkenstone within Erebor. I think the grey of Dale is a good choice for the third film.

"I've found it is the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keeps the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I’m afraid, and he gives me courage.” - Gandalf the Grey.

"Do not be afraid Mithrandir, if ever you should need my help, I will come." - Lady Galadriel.

Actually... [In reply to] Can't Post

The AUJ SE OST is the only one so far that actually matches the EE packaging. All the LotR SE OSTs were like the DoS SE OST, in that they were different colours to the corresponding EE packaging - FotR OST was Red, TTT OST was Blue and the RotK OST was Green...

So I will definitely get my hands on the last one and hopefully the visual guide and art and deisgn book as well. The autographed movie guide looks really tempting.

The Weta Chronicles are top of my list so I will definitely pre-order that and the Sibley guide , and probably pick up a Visual Companion locally over Christmas to complete my collections...

Oh sorry! [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for correcting my error Eleniel. I didn't realize that AUJ's OST color and not DOS's was the odd one out. You know it's funny, this reminds me of a very lengthy conversation in a sub-thread we had concerning whether or not AUJ's OST was the same color as the EE packaging. Remember that? It turned out our editions were slightly different colors (mine was the dvd and yours was blu-ray). And so we meet again...and once again talking about the colors of the OST's and EE's.

Sorry just a bit of a deja vu. Evil

....but not that it was you - how funny! Laugh

It always intrigued me why the OSTs were different to the DVD packaging for Rings, and I wonder why they didn't keep with that for AUJ, since they've reverted back again for DoS,...
