Dom Monaghan to play "Beak" in "Wolverine" movie
|

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=42242 Dominic Monaghan will play "Beak" in "X-Men: Origins: Wolverine" (It's basically X-Men 4 given how Wolverine-centric the first 3 X-Men films were; basically they're making a couple of prequel movies focusing on the origin stories of several big characters; they're also working on a "Origins: Magneto" movie to come out soon too, but it is unknown if McKellan will be involved again; I would think he'd make a cameo) Anyway, "Beak" is a very small character and I can't imagine him doing much in the film, so I suspect this to be a cameo. "Beak" is a young mutant who sprouts talons on his hands and feet and his mouth grows into a well, bird-beak and he grows feathers from his arms. The whole point of Beak is that he's actually not that super-powered, and falls into the category of mutants that have mutations that aren't particularly beneficial but do make them obviously mutants so they're outcasts. Beak can't even fly that much; he can just glide at best. The whole idea behind Beak is he's one of the students at Xavier's mutant academy with no particularly great super-powers, but he's got to learn how to be a hero anyhow (actually, not unlike how Hobbits aren't particularly strong or wise but end up being heroes...)

"Wolverine" is being partly filmed in New Zealand, so I wonder if Dom will manage to come back for a visit :-)

I'm so excited for the wolverine movie to come out, since I pretty much love all of the other x-men movies, and I think its really neat that Dom Monaghan will play Beak!! Beak was always one of my favorite small characters, and I always wished that he had a bigger role, so I'm really happy that he is actually going to be in the movie at all.

Given that the last X-Men movie deviated A LOT from the comics, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Beak soars in this film! This is great news, V. Thanks ooodles!

Haven't heard that one in a long time! Muppet Babies, right? Brings back memories.....
~~~~~~ Círdan saw further and deeper than any other in Middle-earth, and he welcomed Mithrandir at the Grey Havens, knowing whence he came and whither he would return. 'Take this ring, master,' he said, 'for your labours will be heavy; but it will support you in the weariness you have taken upon yourself. For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill.'
More details from Variety: Barnell, but not Beak?
According to this Variety article, Dom will be playing a very different Barnell (Beak's true name). See the article with photos here. "Dominic Monaghan and Daniel Henney are the latest mutants to join the cast of Twentieth Century Fox's 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine.' Monaghan will play Barnell, a mysterious character from Wolverine's past who has the ability to manipulate energy and electricity. Henney will portray Agent Zero, a member of the Weapon X program and an expert tracker with lethal marksman skills. Hugh Jackman stars as the titular character, while Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Taylor Kitsch, will.i.am, Lynn Collins and Ryan Reynolds have already boarded the project, which is shooting in New Zealand, Australia and New Orleans. Gavin Hood directs from a David Benioff screenplay, which chronicles the origins of the talon-sprouting protag. Lauren Shuler Donner, Ralph Winter, Jackman and John Palermo are producing. Kevin Feige exec produces." If I remember correctly, Beak lost his powers in the comics, making him look human again, and received a power suit that enables him to fly and fire energy blasts. Perhaps this version of the character is what they are portraying, because it certainly doesn't sound like the bird-mutant version. Also, I don't recall Barnell/Beak having anything to do with Wolvie's past whatsoever.....but I could be wrong, as I'm not very familiar with post-2000 X-Men comics. In a movie only about Wolverine, I would much rather see the Canadian team Alpha Flight, Silver Fox, Omega Red, Silver Samurai...or maybe even X-23, or the return of Sabretooth. I was going to gripe about this new Agent Zero character too, until a little research revealed him to be Maverick, an old Weapon-X buddy of Logan's. In that case, maybe it will feature Silver Fox and Sabretooth.... Anyway, I'm still looking forward to the film, I hope they handle it better than X-3. And, still hoping for a new X-Men film focusing on Rogue and the other young X-Men. Here are some links if anyone wants to read up on Barnell and Agent Zero: Barnell/Beak: Marvel, Marvel Gallery, and Wikipedia Agent Zero/Maverick: Marvel, Wikipedia Thanks for posting this, V!
Liev Schrieber, too? AND Dom will possibly be filming in NZ? I wonder if his character will be in NZ? Another chance for our Fellowship members to bond a bit. Not only can he hopefully hang with Ian McKellen (if he's in this project), but Liev directed Elijah Wood in Everything Is Illuminated... so Dom and he may have some things to talk about ;) I'm also excited that Dom may become a fixture in the X-Men flicks. That would be wonderful! Thanks for this, stormcrow! Awesome reading!
Amazing! I went to IMDb.com and searched the names from the Variety article....according to them, the casting is as follows: Ryan Reynolds ... Deadpool Liev Schreiber ... Victor Creed / Sabretooth Taylor Kitsch ... Remy Lebeau / Gambit Danny Huston ... William Stryker Kodi Smit-McPhee ... Young Logan Lynn Collins ... Silver Fox Will i Am ... John Wraith/Kestral Hugh Jackman ... Logan / Wolverine Dominic Monaghan ... Barnell Bohusk / Beak Daniel Henney ... Agent Zero I was certainly excited to see that Silver Fox and Sabretooth were indeed included...but Gambit! What a wonderful surprise! It's taken four films, but we finally get to see our Ragin' Cajun! They are even going to film in New Orleans! Can't wait to see the interaction between him and Wolverine. The actor even looks like a younger Gambit...and he's reportedly signed a three-film contract. Info on the above characters: Gambit: Marvel, Wiki Sabretooth: Marvel, Wiki Silver Fox: Marvel, Wiki Deadpool: Marvel, Wiki William Stryker: Marvel, Wiki Kestral: Wiki I'm feeling a bit strange....*twitch*....nope, that's quite normal.
I'm already looking forward to him meeting Rogue in a future film! He and Anna Paquin would make a good-looking couple! Yay!
