For buying cocaine.

(I wonder if this will be a problem if he has any pick-ups scheduled?)

Wow that was so random!

I feel so bad right now. I don't whether to feel sorry for him or not.

Drugs are such an evil thing.

Here's a report in English... [In reply to] Can't Post

Apparently Persbrandt denies buying the drugs, but the police had recorded a drug dealer talking about what the film star had bought.

Exactly [In reply to] Can't Post

That is more than questionable judgment. Because it is based on intercepted telephone calls-only! No evidence of cocaine in the blood, the time of the Money transfer Mike was in South Africa and so on. As a justice expert said: untenable! Micke goes of course to appeal. So nothing is finally settled. Ingmar

My translation of the article... [In reply to] Can't Post

... for you who are interested in reading it. English is not my first language, and I apologise for grammatical errors, etc.

Persbrandt sentenced to prison for buying cocaine
Mikael Persbrandt, 50, was charged with buying cocaine. Today the verdict arrived: five month in prison. Shortly afterwards the star’s attorney announced that the sentence had been appealed.

Eleven persons were charged at Stockholm district court for being part of a big drug ring. The prosecutor claimed that he could tie Mikael Persbrandt to the ring through tapped telephone calls. Persbrandt has, according to the charges, bought 12 grams of cocaine from another man charged with drug related crimes in May last year.
The actor pleaded not guilty.
”He has not ordered or received any drugs”, said Persbrandt’s attorney Per Liljekvist to Aftonbladet in an earlier interview.
His view on what could have happened is this:
”If it turns out that an order has been made, then it is another person who has used his phone. Mikael came home from a film set and had a party. His phone is always lying around and he gladly lets other people use it.”

Secret tapping
During the trial that was held in the beginning of March, the actor said that he didn’t know why the suspected dealers had his number among their contacts. He repeated several times that he had neither called nor texted the dealers.
The prosecutor claimed that Persbrandt had bought the cocaine from a gang that is being charged for smuggling 64 kilos of amphetamine and two kilos of cocaine from the Netherlands.
The evidence brought forward by the prosecutor consisted of tapped telephone calls between the primary suspects and calls from the actor’s phone to the suspected dealer.

The prosecutor: a just punishment
Today at eleven o’clock the verdict was pronounced at Stockholm district court: Persbrandt is found guilty of drug offence. The punishment is five months in prison.
In the sentence Stockholm district court declares that ”Persbrandt alone and none other used his phone to contact the dealer’s phone”.
The prosecutor Lars Ågren says:
”I haven’t read the verdict yet. I have just seen that he was sentenced to five months in prison, which is the punishment we demanded.”
”The court has come to the same conclusions as we did. Five months in prison is a just punishment considering the nature of the crime”, says Ågren.

The sentence has been appealed
Two hours after the verdict was made public Persbrandt’s attorney Per Liljekvist texted Aftonbladet:
”The sentence has been appealed.”
The prosecutor Lars Ågren says:
”In my opinion the evidence and the investigation is solid. According to me, the court of appeal will reach the same conclusion as the district court.”

Now now Bill, you swore this was a battle between warriors, not a bunch of miss nancies, so warriors is what I brought

How can a person be found guilty based on a conversation with a dealer and with no proof that the statements are true and that he actual purchased drugs? Crazy

I'm not much into what he has done in the past or anything, but I know enough not to think much of him. Hench why he being cast as Beorn was a huuuuuge disappointment. I just don't like that guy one bit and that's a rare case me not liking an actor in these movies.

That all depends on whether he's an addict... [In reply to] Can't Post

...or if it's just a once in a while thing. I am no advocate for use of cocaine, as it's horribly unhealthy and it is a massive waste of money, but at the same time plenty of people do these kinds of drugs on occasion, and don't fit the description of an "addict".

As for treating addicts, sure, but who's going to foot the bill? I'm really on the fence about government-sanctioned treatment, because even though I know it's the best bet for the addict to become a productive member of society (at least compared to tossing them in jail), at the same time I don't really like the idea of having to pay for someone else's bad judgement.
