He's awesome, memorable, and I've met very few people who didn't like him.
"A journalist once asked me what I would like my epitaph to be and I said I think I would like it to be 'He did very little harm'. And that's not easy. Most people seem to me to do a great deal of harm. If I could be remembered as having done very little, that would suit me." ~ Paul Eddington

my aunt doesn't. She thinks Gollum is creepy and always want to skip the Riddles in the Dark scene. Personally, I can't say that I like Gollum because I find him creepy, but I agree that he's very memorable and stands out amongst other fantasy characters. I also don't have a problem watching any of his scenes except maybe his transformation in the prologue of ROTK which was a little disturbing. *shrugs*

Surprised more LOTR characters didn't get on - and possibly more Harry Potter and Studio Ghibli characters for that matter. Interesting to see San made it from Princess Mononoke, but I think Ashitaka is a great hero and Lady Eboshi is a fascinating antihero who's just as interesting as San and isn't necessarily bad just because her people are competing with San's for resources. Don't know if I agree that Pan the Faun of Pan's Labyrinth was the girl's ally - I think it's left extremely ambiguous whether he was trying to help her or actually leading her more deeply into danger. Happy nostalgia seeing Falkor make it. Neverending Story and the other fantasy movies of it's time have since been surpassed by LOTR and the Potter movies, but it was great at the time and along with Willow, Legend, Ladyhawke and Dragonslayer is probably still worth watching.
