Two separate factions? This is how I see it shaping out ... [In reply to]

Having scene the destruction of Lake-town, Bofur (with the others) arrive at Erebor insisting that Thorin gives up some of the gold so they can rebuild the Town (the residents of which are now taking shelter in Dale). Thorin back-tracks what he said to the Master in DOS, either because he can't find the Arkenstone, and/or because of his sickness, and/or because Bilbo gives the Arkenstone to Bard in payment. If it (almost) plays out like in the book, perhaps Bofur willingly lets Bilbo go off to the encampment at nighttime. When Thorin finds out, maybe Bilbo isn't the only one in the Company to be kicked out of the Mountain (though, we do know the Dwarves charge out of the Mountain as a collective during the battle, so that's unlikely). It would really drive Thorin mad if Bilbo also gave Thranduil his white gems. What would keep Bofur and whoever else is in his faction from leaving Thorin there and going off with Bilbo?

Thank you for linking this. Smile

"Dark is the water of Kheled-zâram, and cold are the springs of Kibil-nâla, and fair were the many-pillared halls of Khazad-dűm in Elder Days before the fall of mighty kings beneath the stone."
