Domestic: $257,391,000 27.5%
Foreign: $680,000,000 72.5%
Worldwide total: $937,391,000

Yeah but has it? :P [In reply to] Can't Post

Looking at the last BO thread there is an argument to say it hasn't grossed more, but i mean this post in a joking way Tongue

All posts are to be taken as my opinion.

Worth noting that... [In reply to] Can't Post

DOS added 118 theaters (dollar/second-run) this weekend in the U.S. Definitely helped boost its weekend gross.

It is a little more than that ... from The LA Times [In reply to] Can't Post

“Smaug, made $26.5 million in the week ending Sunday [in China], besting newcomer “Robocop” by about $6 million, data from film industry consultants Artisan Gateway showed. Total box office for the week was about $72 million [in China]. The year-to-date tally is $970 million" So if $970m already - is $1b possible??

Was way back in Jan it stopped showing here but would be good to break the $1billion mark, just seems better with all of them doing so (in todays money)

It sounds like all we know for sure [In reply to] Can't Post

is that it will be quite close. Furthermore, it seems to be doing better in most countries but worse in two of the largest contributors (UK and US) both of which had major weather issues during its heydays. But who can really account for the weather? It wouldn't have made a huge difference, but the difference doesn't look like it will be huge.

If all the world's a stage then who's writing the script?

There's still more money to be made in the UK too. It's back in Cineworld next week (from tomorrow). [In reply to] Can't Post

Like the US, it will be on second run. Larger Cineworld and Vue cinemas have it on all next week - the one near me is just showing it on Thursday. The considerably nicer weather might encourage some to see the film if they missed it over winter. We just need another 3 million to see the film to reach the $1 billion mark.

Nice to see you imin. Smile

Thanks Daniel :) [In reply to] Can't Post

Work gets in the way a bit (not done a 10,000 word essay in a while!) Though im guessing as a researcher 10,000 essay is a breeze Smile nice to be back.

$3m is a lot to us mere mortals but in BO terms is nothing so im sure it will get there, i had no idea it was BACK on at cineworld and vue. Is that on in the mornings for kids or properly back on? Just asking as when in Sheffield that never seemed to happen. Smile

Box Office Figures [In reply to] Can't Post

There is a lot of discrepency between the box office figures being reported at the moment. Box Office Mojo updated their total this morning to be: $937,391,000. And the LA Times article says it's at about $970M total. I'd love to believe the higher number, but it's not very clear where they have gotten that figure from. I also thought that I had read that the Chinese totals were in local currency, not in US dollars. That might explain some of the differences in the totals.

It's not early days in China [In reply to] Can't Post

It's already winding down in China, might not even make another $10m.

Japan is a leggy market but since numbers are relatively low to begin with we shouldn't expect a whole lot more than another $10m.

So DOS should add another $20m or thereabout to its coffins before the run is over.

I dunno what LA Times is smoking. BOM has the correct numbers.

Box Office Monkey [In reply to] Can't Post

...has China at $59,610,000 3/2/14 while LA Times has it at $72m a week later therein lies the discrepancy BOM lags by a week. You suggest $960m; I think it may be a bit more. If LA Times is correct then $980-990m, if they are not then ~$970. China should at least do close three times its opening weekend. It did 2.7 times for AUJ. If that follows then DOS will be close to $90m in China.

Haven't we talked about that for the umpteenth time? The country breakdown may be lagging behind but the total boxoffice is up-to-date.

DOS is dropping a bit harder then AUJ in China. It'll finish with about $80m.

$950m total has been passed already, so the question is whether it is $960m, $970m, $980m or more... China loves a dragon so it may be in the latter group

It's at $937m as of Sunday [In reply to] Can't Post

So i don't see how $950m could have been passed already unless it made $13m in the wee Monday hours, which - obviously - it did not.

Depends on who you read... [In reply to] Can't Post

...LA Times says it is passed, anyway there is closer to another $30m out there than the $10-13 as you pessimistically suggest (China has a lot of space to go to get a measily 2.5 times opening week). Time will tell, but $950m if not passed already then will be very shortly. Being the optimist I am $970-980m is easily witn reach11!

LA Times doesn't make any sense [In reply to] Can't Post

It was at $665m last week (minus North America), it made (roughly) about $4m in Japan and $11m in China in the last seven days (people on the box office forum at boxoffice.com are posting numbers). $680m makes sense, what LA Times is suggesting doesn't make sense. One of the number crunchers there made a mistake.

Last time i checked i said it's making another $20m or so, not $10m or $13m.

China is dropping over 50% every week. This last weekend it made close to $6m, next weekend it might be $3m or less. China is winding down fast, which is normal for the Chinese market.

Box Office Mojo numbers are true but i cannot see DOS making only 13m or less during the next weeks in China and Japan so 950m is out of the picture for me.I think it will easily reach 960m maybe 970m ww.

So many errors [In reply to] Can't Post

Robocop has been a clear number 1 since it opened in China. I dunno where they got that DOS remained number 1. Maybe they are comparing DOS' 7-day week to Robocop's 3-day weekend.
