TH DOS: Guards of Erebor limited giftset on BluRay! Can't Post

Now this looks like a tasty mouthful!

So far, it has only appeared on German amazon (and has been sold out in pre-order despite a heavy price tag of 119 EUR). The limitation seems to be 25000 worldwide.
This English artwork which came up on blu-ray.com looks like it might be sold in some of English-language countries as well.

I don't think it has sold out [In reply to] Can't Post

I think they took it down because the details weren't finalized yet. I suspect it will go back up again once they have a firm date and price. I'm sure they've done this with other releases in the past.

With some releases... [In reply to] Can't Post

...amazon does get only a limited contingency. And sometimes they do sell out quite quickly. For instance, the Star Trek Into Darkness Phaser Edition was sold out in less than a day after it got listed.
The limitation number of 25000 looks quite low (if distributed over the world) so that Amazon might just get somewhat about 500-1000 pieces of that edition.

Usually... [In reply to] Can't Post

A limited edition available worldwide (and I'm guessing this will be available across the various versions of Amazon) will not have the same number. So if it's coming out in America say, then I'm sure the '25,000/25,000' will refer to those just sold in America. I bet the likes of Germany and France will have their own numbered editions, with localized packaging. I'd be astonished if this was limited to just 25,000 worldwide (if it's not a German exclusive release, and that pic suggests it won't be). Something like 100,000 worldwide (25,000 US, 25,000 Germany, 25,000 France and maybe 25,000 UK, though other markets are very possible) seems more realistic.

A collector's edition for the theatrical cut? [In reply to] Can't Post

That's what i have been saying all along... [In reply to] Can't Post

The Amazon.de listing has a price of 14.99 Euros which would be a standard TE price but the release date of 31 December 2014 which indicates it is more likely to be the EE - sounds like a place-holder to me for the EE...

Nope... [In reply to] Can't Post

This is the TE alright. Amazon uses 31st December as a placeholder date if a date is TBA.

Sales gimmick... [In reply to] Can't Post

....to obviously boost sales of the TE... The sales of the TEs cannot be doing as well as the EEs, since we've all been thru this 4 times already!

I think this has to do with sales... [In reply to] Can't Post

I think that they are releasing the box set with the TE because the EE of AUJ probably wasn't that great of breadwinner. They want to make their money on the TE which performed quite well for the first film. Regular joes buying the film might be more easily tempted to buy the box set of TE than double dip on a box set of the EE.

rant [In reply to] Can't Post

limited collectors edition, what does that even mean? rooms full of plastic tat and worthless obsolete film version 'editions', that they no longer actually watch thats its on a shelf getting dusty.

for the amount of money you could spend on all the different versions. collectors editions, replica stuff over the whole 6 films, dvd, bluray, ultraviolet, 3d,2d,limited edition etc that is not worth a penny now im pretty sure you could buy some real art that would actually appreciate in value.

In My Opinion... [In reply to] Can't Post

All the "collectors" editions are supplied with splendid statuettes and I like to have them around. But that is just my opinion. However, by no stretch of the imagination could they be described as "plastic tat" so you are factually incorrect.

Maybe because fans got confused, which version is best or "definitive" [In reply to] Can't Post

Because there were so many different editions and cases and formats.

So this makes a pretty clear impact that this is the version for the big fans to get.

everybody has one. :)

You would actually be very wrong that a lot of this stuff hasn't gone up in value. There are multiple pieces I have owned or own that are worth 3-5x its original value. I guess I will go home tonight and just be sad at my awesome collection of Middle-earth themed stuff. lol

but "real" art [In reply to] Can't Post

probably wouldn't make me as happy as my posters and Erebor key necklace and Thorin POP figure. Just like my aquarium makes me happier than any real art could and I put money INTO that, off and on. As far as all the different versions, since I misplace stuff on a regular basis and folks borrow things, multiple copies of the Hobbit are a GOOD thing.

We wants this edition, precioussss, we WANTS it - MUST have it.Evil

fair play [In reply to] Can't Post

is that your collection?

pretty dedicated, i cant talk, i once collected different fizzy drink cans when i was a kid! insanity

i dont mind middle earth themes, i just dont like the 'movie' themed stuff, all those odd busts of ian mkellen and orlando bloom freak me out to be honest! going to sleep with sean bean starring at me seems weird! and they are film memorabilia more than tolkien memorabilia.

the ringwraithe statues are awesome though, why is it tucked away on the bottom shelf? its the best thing, all those statue things are sooo expensive though!

if it was me, id sell all of it and buy original artwork from alan lee or john howe, now that is worth something.

This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party.

Yes, it is. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd like to think so. I love my collection.

I can understand they're not everyone's cup of tea. All, I can say is to me they're every bit as much Middle-earth/Tolkien memorabilia than just film.

I agree the Ringwraith statues are awesome. The way the shelves worked out they left the most space and they're among the heaviest so its better to be on the bottom.

I have some artwork in my collection but I want a more robust collection than just that.
