DoS takes Christmas day in the U.S.

May challenge Scorsese for weekend top spot. Looks like DoS is holding. actually 9.1M is pretty darn good for Christmas day for a film that's been out 2 weeks. Fan Base and repeat business seems to be the reason. Go us! http://www.deadline.com/...and-47-ronin-follow/

Perhaps it's because 3 of the major Christmas releases- Walter Mitty, Grudge Match and 47 Ronin - are getting terrible reviews?

I don't want to jinx it but if it follows TTT which was the last time Christmas Eve fell on a Tuesday, DOS might actually have a better 3rd weekend than AUJ. It should at least match it. That would the first good news since launch.

And I contributed to that by going to see it in IMAX for the first time, and boy was it GLORIOUS in IMAX!!! Seeing Thorin on that size screen was wonderful! And Smaug of course! And the theater was pretty full too, so I think it's going to be playing a while longer at this particular theater here at least. And, of course, I'll be seeing it regularly (or irregularly) as long as it's playing. Go us!!!

Scorseses film got a pretty low cinemascore as that article.points out. The film has legs so far so that's good. Go fans!

IMO from the trailers 47 and WM looked like-wait-to-see-on-cable. And whatever the reviews for DOS may or may not have been, it's obvious this is a BIG movie with a BIG *bleep* dragon. If I'm hauling friends and family into the cold for a movie, it's gonna hafta be something that's worth the effort - especially when like hobbits they are all weighed down from dinner.

"GLORIOUS in IMAX!!!" That's a perfect word for the 3D IMAX view (and Thorin + Thranduil + Smaug) - gonna miss that when I have the BR at home. We have to drive a bit farther this Saturday, but that's the theater I insisted my friends see this in who haven't seen DOS yet - thankfully it's holding in the IMAX theater, I was afraid they'd stick Ronin in there for the weekend. IMO full-blown IMAX is the theater of choice for DOS.

...in getting the non US figures in (they are weekly only and not daily). Come the end of this coming weekend there will be a huge jump as the Australian and other non US figures come in. In Australia they are predicting bigger business than AUJ (will balance the drop in the dollar vis a vis the US$), some theatres booked out for few days out still.

and with Box Office prices the way they are it's going to increasingly become that way. I know I don't go to the cinema nearly as often as I did 10 years ago. I just can't afford it. I'm a Regal Club member but still, I am pretty circumspect now about which movies I go and see in cinema. It has to be something for me that absolutely has to be seen on the big screen. Otherwise, I'm not going.

Considering the tough competition. Box office.com predicts about $30 million for the three day weekend. http://www.boxoffice.com/...tes-weekend-forecast
Without the high and noble the simple and vulgar is utterly mean; and without the simple and ordinary the noble and heroic is meaningless As far as any character is 'like me' it is Faramir–except that I lack what all my characters possess: Courage. A small knowledge of history depresses one with the sense of the everlasting mass and weight of human iniquity
