Great stuff! [In reply to] Can't Post

It's wonderful to see Howard Shore and Doug Adams in a vlog! And after seeing this, my reservations about newcomers to orchestration and conducting are put to rest. It's so much better when you see the process behind it all. It was a treat to see the excitement about the music of Middle-earth combined with some new clips (No, I haven't seen the movie yet...probably Monday Smile, can't wait)

.

"When you think of the great Battle of Pelennor, do not forget the Battle of Dale. Think of what might have been. Dragon-fire and savage swords in Eriador! There might be no Queen in Gondor. We might now only hope to return from the victory here to ruin and ash. But that has been averted -- because I met Thorin Oakenshield one evening on the edge of spring not far from Bree. A chance-meeting, as we say in Middle-earth."

Nice to see a glimpse of Billy and Dom.

As a Finn it was a nice to surprise to see the Concertmaster is Finnish (which he must be, judging by his name). Cool

Thanks. [In reply to] Can't Post

I still think soundtrack was mixed too quiet into the movies.

I just watched some FOTR scenes on youtube, like forming the fellowship or moria scenes.
And the music is beautifully mixed, loud as a main character. It immediately comes through.

That i missed in AUJ, DOS.

yes, even if [In reply to] Can't Post

they obviously misspelled his last name "Lepännen" when it should have been "Leppänen". Or maybe he just has a very unusual name. But it was nice to hear a familiar accent, it brings these movies a little closer. You get a glimpse of what the kiwi's must be feeling, when this giant film series is completely made in their small (but otherworldy beautiful) backyard.

Was that our first look at Dain? [In reply to] Can't Post

I couldn't quite see if it was Billy Connolly under all that hair and metal. But this dwarf looked very good nonetheless, very dwarvish.

I remember the Edoras theme... [In reply to] Can't Post

Peter Jackson asked for something he could hum, that would get stuck in his head. And he knew he got the right one when he found himself humming it in his car on the way home.

I can't think of a single theme that I can hum from The Hobbit, except for the Misty Mountains, but that wasn't written by Shore Unsure It's more like incidental noise than music in my opinion. None of it's catchy or memorable, like The Shire theme or Nazgul or Edoras or Fellowship themes.

For a minute there, I thought they had changed Bolg's design yet again. Wink

I've been waiting for a vlog about the score and this one really delivered. Now, back to the theater to see it agan!

Have an idea relating to the world of JRR Tolkien that you would like to write about? If so, the Third TORn Amateur Symposium will be running in the Reading Room in March, 2014. We hope to see you there!

Ditto...... [In reply to] Can't Post

Back to a theater shortly seeing as it's Friday night - I'll watch the new v-blog later - but some of the music that haunts me are the almost Asian tones re Bilbo w. cup, and Bard prophecy scene causes chills w. music and voice-over.....every time. "The Lord of Silver Fountains, the King of Carven Stone.....the King Beneath the Mountain shall come into his own....." EPIC!!!
