On my second viewing, I did make a note of paying attention to the creature Bilbo kills when it gets close to the ring as there was some discussion here about what it was. To me, it looks like an albino spider, and now, thanks to that close viewing, I can't get that mental image out of my head.  Will plan to close my eyes on subsequent viewings.
