Smile

That is, as of 16 December for North America, still 15 December for international.

That is a crazy amount of money for only a few days release!

All posts are to be taken as my opinion.

Meh [In reply to] Can't Post

It opened to a a lot fewer days in release overall for a weekend than last year, fewer screens plus the weather (which affected all movies). 6M U.S. yesterday isn't that bad for a monday that's pretty darned good. It will pick up again this weekend I'm sure. The movie is going to make a boat load of money any way you slice it.

I won't lie I want this to hit a billion so the snarky guy at BO Mojo can eat some crow. Generally, I wouldn't care but he seemed to relish in the fact he thought this one would do worse.

I think it will break $1 billion [In reply to] Can't Post

It doesn't really matter to me if it does or not but i think it will get there and probably end up the highest grossing film franchise of all time.

All posts are to be taken as my opinion.

I think it will too. I think AUJ did a little shy of 8M on the Monday following release. I will be more disappointed if DoS doesn't hit close to 10M on the weekend though. I think this next weekend should be a bell weather to see how it's going to play out.

I hate... [In reply to] Can't Post

... to read posts on these sites such as "people OS will dig it up".

So what? Since when does a decrease in the US mean that a movie isn't that great?

Just shows that a majority of the people on the boards of box office.com and similar are mostly covered fanboys and/or haters.

I hope we see that too! We're up against the Christmas holiday here in the U.S. and hopefully with kids out of school, including Universities, they'll catch another viewing if they haven't already.

my IMAX line at midnight was solid Uni age kids which was nice to see. I hope they help boost it this weekend for sure!

Some of the authors... [In reply to] Can't Post

... do have quite some insight though, despite many of them being obviously very biased.

The users on these sites imho are much worse. And I speak in general terms of fanboys and haters alike. Could care less whether they praise or hate DoS or any other movie I like, cause ot seems to be quite certain that they then unload their venom on other movies and franchises.

I wish... [In reply to] Can't Post

I wish I had the money to see DOS a second time and contribute to increasing that number. I saw it in IMAX 3D the one time I've seen it (on Sunday the 15th of Dec.) and the tickets here are $17 per ticket. With two family members plus myself going to see it, that totals $51 for one viewing! We did save some money by not buying snacks but that's still quite a bit of money for my family.

Other than the elven realm and the entire Smaug sequence which looked unbelievably awesome in 3D, I felt like the 3D took away from the rest of the movie by making the quite a few of the scenes look like they were filmed in a children's pop-up book. Even those scenes that I knew for fact were filmed on location or on a fully constructed set ended up looking fake. Ultimately, this took me out of the story a little bit. If I had the money, I'd like to go back and watch the movie a second time in 2D so I can see how these scenes look normally. Sadly, I don't.

Christmas Break [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, I get my Christmas break next week. I know I plan to get another visit or two mixed in there.

My double feature theater was sold out and the theater was packed when DOS got over after midnight. My screening last Saturday was also packed.

Yeppers. [In reply to] Can't Post

It's a bit too early to tell, but I think it's probably a safe bet that it will eventually wind up somewhere between 'Monsters University' and 'Man of Steel' in the US, maybe falling a few million short of Supes. Feels very familiar. If chance is in its' favour, maybe the Halfing will have the Kryptonian Wonder experience a 'Sky Fall' (ducks...sorry...sorry..) So, weighted against Kong and the first Hobbit film, the current bottom end of my guestimated tracking window has it earning at least 232 M (the least it will earn, going up over time) , with the top window still hard to pin down (270-285ish?) in the US. Not bad at all. :)

It looks to be doing well in markets outside the US, so maybe it can break 800M $USD in those markets. Dunno. It's all good, though. :)

I want this to hit one billion as well. This has a chance to be the first trilogy to have all three films hit one billion. It would be awesome if it did.

Although I always wait to see the movie with my siblings, I make up for it quickly and will probably see the movies 10+ times before it leaves the theaters. So I'll be doing my part to boost the ticket sales Cool
