international is not much different [In reply to] Can't Post

I would be surprised with the USA difference had it not been for people commenting on the bad weather over parts of the USA.

I think it is going to perform better over a longer period of time in the USA as maybe some people who would have gone and seen it this weekend were unable to?

Overall i had previously thought it would do a little better than AUJ, i think it will probably be the same now.

It's hard to draw too many conclusions just yet... [In reply to] Can't Post

...because the North American box office was probably affected by all the snow we've gotten in the Northeast lately. The same thing happened, albeit almost certainly on a bigger scale, with Avatar's opening weekend. Still, it's not a surprise to see a slight decrease from AUJ. $300M domestic is far from a lock, though the increase overseas means DOS has a good chance of breaking a billion worldwide anyway.

This. The Weather was picturesque and ideal for window watching, a walk or a sleigh-ride [In reply to] Can't Post

, but not much for driving. Public trans was still up in many places, but there were some where the storm was severe enough that even those options were closed off, so there is NO doubt in my mind that easily thousands of would be movie goers, and quite possibly tens or even hundreds of thousands (the storm covered many states, Mid-West, to all the East Coast from the lower Mid-Atlantic up) were either forced to stay home, or at least deterred from going out to the nearest Cineplex Theater.

While I have SOME worries about how things like Ron Burgundy as Anchor and this dinosaurs thing might effect Smaug's numbers in the next week, I am also strongly inclined to believe that Smaug will not only hold up at least as well in the next two weeks as An Unexpected did, it will likely also see a numbers bumb mid week to next weekend, and certainly during those first few days of vacation for Universities/Colleges and schools, as the more uneventful weather forecast for much of the rest of the week allows people who were shut in to make up the difference. Time will tell.

so not all of Sunday will count toward the weekend box office. However, the Sunday receipts will count toward overall box office.

...have better legs in the long run..... Plus, weather in the US was treacherous to say the least.... I'm a die-hard and made it out twice.

At the same point with AUJ, I was at four viewings. I promise I'll make up for it Wink

Good start. [In reply to] Can't Post

The worldwide number looks really good, seeing that DOS wasn't released in as many countries as AUJ. I would expect a very nice weekly take, as well as a great hold in the US next weekend.
