Peter Jackson on CBS Morning Show

This may have been posted on the Hobbit board but since I'm avoiding spoilers, I wouldn't know. I think this interview with Jackson is more about him than The Hobbit, though... and deserves the eyes of those who aren't keeping abreast of the upcoming movie. I'll let the mods sort out if it's a duplicate and needs deletion. The video is (and transcript of the interview) is here: http://www.cbsnews.com/...it-character-hed-be/ In terms of potential spoilers for the next movie... they show some of the reconstructed sets that are in LA for promotion. If you don't want to see the set then read the transcript and/or close your eyes while you play the video. Jackson makes a very general comment on the design style of one of the (Middle-earth) locations in the movie. After showing some LOTR footage, there is about 5 seconds of DOS footage I'm pretty sure has been in the trailers. There is a line spoken by one of the characters that will show up in the transcript. Nothing new for anyone who's seen the trailers and the line is not particularly spoilery. (in terms of plot) The narrator of the segment provides a general overview of the story of The Hobbit. (at least in the movie version of TH as set up in AUJ). From about 1:00 to 1:19, they show shots from the movie and behind the scenes shots that could be spoilerish for anyone with a strict no-info-at-all diet. The narration over these scenes is not spoilerish so the transcript could be read or one could close their eyes while playing the video. Now we get to the good part about Jackson. He talks a little about his childhood (with some photos and film of him at that time) and how he got into movies. This isn't stuff I've seen before. If you have *any* interest in Jackson as a person and/or director... this is good stuff. While they talk about Jackson, they show about 5 seconds from DOS from 1:35-1:40. I don't think this is new stuff if you've seen trailers. Narration is not Hobbit specific but the interview is conducted on this reconstructed set in LA. Footage from Bad Taste is shown. Jackson: “Hopefully, this next year, I'll revisit my old movies and actually just really polish them up and release them on Blu-Ray,” he said. “So I'm actually going to go back to that world again.” At 3:00, LOTR is discussed a bit with some footage from those movies. From 3:22-3:43, and at 3:57 (for a moment), movie and behind the scenes footage from DOS is shown. Narration (transcript) is not spoilerish other than to comment on the controversy of his adapting the novel beyond the constructs of the Hobbit as a novel. If you are looking for new info on The Hobbit... this isn't the story you seek. If you have followed at least some of the trailers and/or Hobbit vlogs, there is nothing spoilerish in this. If you are staying absolutely clear of all visuals, the transcript is probably not going to spoil you. This story is really about Jackson and it's worth watching, imo. I have seen a lot of promotional material for LOTR and TH and this is new to me.

I posted it there, actually, but I think it would be nice if your post could be allowed to stay here for people who are avoiding the Hobbit board because of spoilers.

wants to post something they think will be of general interest, it's probably best to first contact either one of the Admins, or someone who is OK with checking the Hobbit board. We can then decide if another post is warranted. We're getting information constantly, and instead of asking us to clean up after the fact while also trying to keep up with all the activity, it's better to do some up-front research.

I always wonder which one to PM. Some aren't around much. So I tend to 'bug' the same ones over and over again. And then they have to dig through dozens of threads cause some links get posted in the middle of another topic. To be honest, if it seems like to much hassle I probably wouldn't bother. It's that cost vs benefit ratio thing. :-) I won't be upset if this is deleted.

Finding out more about Sir Peter himself. That childhood stuff reminds me so much of my son, who has been making his own live-action films since he was about 7. Before that he did animation but he loves the editing process. If anything it makes me enjoy Sir Peter's work even more, knowing the heart and mind and soul behind it. Makes me happy for him, to be realizing your dream, I agree 100%, not many people can say that they are living a fully realized life, using their talents as they want to. Whatever people say about the films, good or bad, I think he is where he wants to be and that is truly a blessing.
The second TORn Amateur Symposium is running right now, in the Reading Room. Come have a look and maybe stay to chat!

It's not 100% current, but you can see which admin's have been online in the last 10 minutes. And with so much information coming in, we won't have to dig through dozens of threads to find if something has already been posted like this situation. You were posting the same morning that something happened. And it doesn't have to be an admin. You can choose anyone who posts on the Hobbit board, and you can see that by Who's Online. All you're looking for is validation that some piece of news has or hasn't already been posted on the Hobbit board, which you're temporarily avoiding because of spoilers, right? That problem goes away as soon as you see the movie.
