http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5FTIbUvwk The shot at 00:01 of Erebor & Laketown is new, I think. Looks magnificent, for sure.

Imagine if you will Often in the line sight of everyone living there a reminder that Anytime Their lives are under Threat. It z different than other placez since the Legend that is Smaug is an Ever-present Fatal DANGER.. Like living on the Edge of a Volcano Never knowing when .. it will Erupt.. Bomby would be Nervous

I got to see the 20 minutes at the fan event and it was gorgeous! And still that was only scratching the surface, I can't wait to see it really in depth. And it's going to be quite a sight when we see it all burning.

The mountain as a constantly present threat to the citizens of Lake Town.

... Erebor is supposed to be a solitary peak... wouldn't make much sense to have such a high mountain close to the Lake. The shape is also pretty obviously the same imho, just from a slightly different angle.

I like that shot of Lake-town with Erebor in the distance. Like Bomby says, it helps establish the relationship between the two locations. And the shot of Thorin smiling at the key is from a slightly different angle, you can see the smile better.
