Not sure how and when they are intending to show this meeting, but I am glad they filmed it

that the picture is of lake town folk. The picture is indeed of Lake town inhabitants, but read the story below, it mentions recreating Bree for this film :)
"The Men of the Sea send before them a great cloud, as a rain turned to serpents, or a black hail tipped with steel."

Wonder if this will be where Gandalf says "Kill the dragon, take back your homeland?" Thank you - great find!

Given the first track title on the soundtrack, I hoped we'd be seeing this! Very happy about this.
"All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men. That they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible." - T.E. Lawrence

There's a track on upcoming soundtrack, the first one, actually. Simply titled The Quest for Erebor. Do you think this is a good hint of how the film will begin?

It mentioned that they had to design costumes for "4 Featured characters and 50 extras". Now we know that 2 of these "featured characters" are Gandalf and Thorin but who else met in Bree to discuss the quest? Maybe Balin came along? Perhaps we'll see a baby Barliman Butterbur

But I sincerely hope Jackson dosen't ignore canon once again and slip in a certain Ranger as a background cameo... I wonder if we will see Bree itself or just the Prancing Pony
I don't have much to say.

...regarding the meeting in Bree being in. The idea of Lake-town being multiracial in the films is interesting to say the least, especially considering that Lake-town is a far northern settlement, and pretty dang far from regions like Khand, Rhun, or Harad.

I'm not totally sure how copyright works in this case, but The Prancing Pony is not mentioned in conjunction with Thorin and Gandalf's meeting in the Appendices, only in Unfinished Tales. So with this being the case, would Jackson have the right to portray The Prancing Pony in this circumstance? I mean, I know he has the rights to the name through LotR, but is he legally allowed to connect the dots like that?

He snuck a quick reference to the 'ring of barahir' in the extended edition of the two towers which is technically illegal and he could have faced a hefty fine but it seems to his luck, no one noticed. As I understand it, the 'ring of barahir' is only mentioned by name in the Silmarillion.

...is mentioned in Appendix A, in two sections - first in the section "Eriador, Arnor, and the Heirs of Isildur", and for a second time in the section "Here Follows a Part of the Tale of Aragorn and Arwen". It is named as one of the heirlooms of Aragorn's house that Elrond withheld from him until he came of age, so I would assume that Jackson was within his legal rights to make that reference, and to use it in the context he did.
