Thank God for that casting decision - and just for the record: I do not even find him to be "hot"

But seriously, somehow I feel this poster just "gets" the character.

There is grandeur and sadness, and the prediction that he will not live to see the success of his quest... Thorin's character is in my opinion what these movies have the most improve from the book. I don't how hot I would find him if I was gay, but certainly hotter than Legolas, so much charism !

It perfectly captures Thorin's essence and hints at the dark path this character has embarked upon.... I always thought him beautiful in a dramatic and austere fashion, rather than 'hot' (the sensuous thing about him being his hair!).

Though I'm not a chap, so perhaps my perceptions differ… I also like the one of Bard – I could really like this character, I think, but have to see how he is in the film.

THANK YOU from an unabashed, wish-I-could-buy-PJ-an-expensive-dinner-for-casting-RA, Thorin fan. The joy is from all the goodies this week including Monday, finally getting my hands on the AUJ EE BluRay today, and now another gorgeous image. AND an image of Bilbo that actually looks like Bilbo - much better, IMO! And some new clothes on Thorin - for me, intriguing! (I'm an image junkie, and the bigger the better.) The pain is from the usual "where can I get high res versions of these?" Guess I'll be learning enough basic French to do searches. Why is it France had the cool Hobbit subway signs, too (guess because it's France tho we do have the artist doing the Middle Earth subway signs) and Germany had a way better DOS calender. Can't complain too much tho re the recent releases - looks like the photographers justifiably fell in love with Thorin's profile. But what is Legolas looking at ): looks like he's praying and Tauriel looks like she's modeling a purse. Like Bard tho, a different look to him with an almost-smile, very masculine too.

I don't how hot I would find him if I was gay, but certainly hotter than Legolas, so much charism ! because frankly, I don't get what some women see in Legolas. I never much cared for him myself (or Orlando Bloom, for that matter), but then again, I hardly ever (or very rarely) fall for blonde haired characters or actors. They're always dark haired. If you have dark hair, you're more mysterious than if you have light hair, and I like a little bit of mystery in my life.

Beorn I firmly believe they are holding back to keep SOME surprises for the move - and think they are buffering the fabulous bad-ass Thranduil as well - e.g. if they show too much of him wielding a sword etc. then we have already seen him at his most intense. Hope for the DOS DVD and BR release they will let loose with the artwork, because think these two characters are going to be new favorites for a lot of people - like Smaug. If not, even while Thorin and dwarves and Bilbo are my favorites, so is Thranduil - THE Elven King - he's more significant than the other elves who have gotten PR for me, and IMO to the story itself.

Neither Legolas nor Orlando Bloom is my type, and I could never understand what all the fuss was about over Legolas in LotR. He looked pretty enough at times in the trilogy, but is too much of a lightweight for my taste. Thorin (and Richard Armitage), on the other hand, is more masculine, with a deeper voice and far more charisma (in my view).

LOTR, for me, was all about Aragorn and Eomer, with all that testosterone flowing.
