I do like this type of music, but did not expect it at all for this movie. I thought the same the first time I heard Into The West though and now I just think its great. Will have to wait in see. The guitar is what throws me off.

but I actually like it! I can actually see it being played on the radio! maybe it has capability of a best original song? its actually really good!! though it doesn't sound like a middleearth style, it does do me well enough
"And do you really think, Thorin Oakenshield, that Bolg will have the slightest symphony for you? After he watched you hack his fathers hand off, so ruthlessly in Moria. Azogs defeat has brought nothing to you, only refuelled hate of his kin, upon yours"

It's a chance to revisit the world we know and love from LOTR but it can be something all of its own.

Listened to the whole thing now and, yep, I dig it. Its just weird to here something about Durin's sons in a song like this. I can picture myself sitting in the theater listening to it as the credits roll. Good stuff. Bravo Ed.

They seem to be going for "folksy" this time around with the credit songs. I actually like this song, even if it's not particularly in line with Shore's sound for Middle-earth.

By the sound of the song, I think DOS will end on a very sad note. The lyrics lead me to think that perhaps some of the dwarves thinking the others are dead.

It's a decent song in its genre, but, to me, not at all as haunting as Gollum's Song. I was hoping more for that kind of vibe. Can't picture hearing this when it fades to the credits, but maybe it'll make sense when I see the movie.

It seems very intimate and I really like that. It's not about bombast all the time.

Ed sounds great and the music is quite lovely too. Enjoyed the inclusion of the strings in particular. I'm glad they opted for a more intimate and low-key piece.

I've listened to it ten times straight and really like it. Then again, I loved all previous songs. They are all great, but if I had to rank them, I'd go: 1. Into the West 2. May it be 3. I see Fire 4. Song of the Misty Mountains 5. Gollum's Song

I really loved the ending song of AUJ, the Song of the Lonely Mountain. This seems to be in a similar vein, which I enjoy, but still not as grand as the other song was IMO.

"I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran ~~~ Oh misty eye of the mountain below, Keep careful watch of my brother’s souls, And should this sky be filled with fire and smoke, Keep watching over Durin’s sons. ~~~ If this is to end in fire, Then we should all burn together, Watch the flames climb higher, Into the night. Calling out father, Stand by and we will, Watch the flames burn on and on, The mountainside. ~~~ And if we should die tonight, We should all die together, Raise a glass of wine, For the last time. Calling out father, Prepare as we will, Watch the flames burn on and on, The mountainside. ~~~ Desolation comes upon the sky. ~~~ And I see fire, Inside the mountain, I see fire, Burning the trees. And I see fire, Hollowing souls, ~~~ And I see fire, Blood in the breeze. And I hope that you remember me. ~~~ Oh should my people fall, Surely I’ll do the same, Confined in mountain holes, We got too close to the flame. Calling out father, Hold fast and we will, Watch the flames burn on and on, The mountainside. ~~~ Desolation comes upon the sky. ~~~ And I see fire, Inside the mountain, I see fire, Burning the trees. I see fire, Hollowing souls, I see fire, Blood in the breeze. And I hope that you remember me. ~~~ And if the night is burning, I will cover my eyes, For if the dark returns, My brothers will die. And as the sky is falling down, It crashed into this lonely town, And with that shadow upon the ground, I hear my people screaming out. ~~~ And I see fire, Inside the mountains, I see fire, Burning the trees. I see fire, Hollowing souls, I see fire, Blood in the breeze. I see fire, (oh you know I saw a city burning) Fire. And I see fire, (feel the heat upon my skin) Fire. And I see fire, Fire. ~~~ I see fire burning on and on, The mountainside.

The song is perfectly fine, but it seems a little bit too stripped back when compared to previous choices. I could be wrong here, but didn't they add an orchestra for Neil Finn's song in AUJ just for the credits, and keep his original version for the CD?

I know that if I listen to it now, my dislike for Ed Sheeran will influence my overall opinion of the song. I'm going to leave it a while, as I'm sure it is a perfectly fine song. Looking at reviews and opinions, it doesn't seem to have been better received than Neil Finn's song for AUJ. That's another reason why I am holding back.

Something like Misty Mountains except from the humans' point of view. Idk? Either way it's so darn awesome. I'm proud of PJ's good taste in selecting musicians for the OSTs these two years

I think it would be nigh impossible to please everyone, and unless I know the commenter's personal musical taste, it's hard to know from other peoples' reactions whether I'll like something, so I had to listen for myself. I didn't much care for Song of the Lonely Mountain when I first heard it, but it grew on me. I actually like this one a smidge better on first hearing. We'll see how it wears. Also, I have no previous knowledge of the singer, so I have no preconceived notions to get in the way. It sounds to me like that's a factor for a number of people. There was plenty of controversy over the vocalist and stylistic choices for all three of the LOTR songs, as I recall, but each of those songs has its proponents now, though usually people still like one more than the others.
Silverlode "Dark is the water of Kheled-zâram, and cold are the springs of Kibil-nâla, and fair were the many-pillared halls of Khazad-dûm in Elder Days before the fall of mighty kings beneath the stone."
