great night out! i even loved ed sheerans song, so thats saying something, there was a cool little music video for it too... everyone got lots of goodies, a few books handed out, and a girl dressed as a door won the trip to berlin! london was by far the loudest with the craziest fans, i think in th euk we kind of get the irony of fan events really well! anyway... observations... alot of hard core girl fans, in fact mostly girls, and every time a picture of legolas, bard or thranduil came on it went mental!! but the biggest scream was for a brief glimpse of benedict. honestly didnt realise how much girls are obsessed by the men in this film.. each to there own! now the 20mins! WOW i wont spoil anything, but bilbo is amazing!!!!!! perfect really shines! spiders! brilliant , very clever bilbo looking for the arkenstone, hilarious! it went so quick every clip was spot on, this film is gooing to be so much better then AUJ ill write some more when i can remember, but im not giving any plot away, peter jackson asked us not too!! one thing peter did say is how theyve managed to keep so much stuff secret, and that was mostly dues to vfx work not being finished. there is so much we havnt seen! oh and they had bilbo, gandalf and thorins costumes there, they looked great! x

You got to hear Ed Sheeran's song?! You got goodies?! You saw the 20 minutes of footage?! Man, I wish I could have seen it in a theater! Since PJ asked you not to spoil the plot, I won't ask for spoilers but I wish I could have been there! So jealous!

After a quick con-fab among the admins we've clarified the situation: Discussion of the spoilers is allowed (and encouraged!), but no sneaky video of the actual film footage please. Apologies for any confusion that I've caused! But now we know what the lay of the land is. So, have it, all of you who attended!
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. i'll repost... Here are my thoughts on the 20 minutes ****(Spoilers!!!!!)**** The first scene we saw was Bilbo climbing up through the trees in Mirkwood with the butterflies. After seeing the direction they need to head in Bilbo notices trees in the distance shaking. He's then knocked down by spiders. This was absolutely beautiful. I was worried about the green screens throughout the production but my gosh it looked amazing here. Next was part of the spider fight and the naming of Sting. At first all we can hear is the spiders hissing but when Bilbo slips on the ring we can began to hear them speaking. Though when Bilbo takes the ring off later we still hear one of them speak so i'm not sure what exactly is the case there. Quite comedic in tone which I was a little disappointed in but I still really liked it. However something I didn't like was the slow mo effect in the 'ring world' while Bilbo fights the spiders. Next was the orc interrogation with Tauriel, Legolas and Thrandy. Really enjoyed this. After Tauriel gets a little hot-headed Thranduil sends her off before continuing to question the orc. After the orc begins to talk of their time coming again and return of darkness etc. Thranduil beheads him. Very cool. Thrandy is clearly worried at this news and orders that no one enter or leave the kingdom Next we see Bilbo releasing the dwarves from their cells. I think this may have been cut down a bit as there were quite a few weird jumps in the editing. (though thats true for all of the footage but definitely here.) He leads them down into the cellar where two elves are passed out drunk. The dwarves are initially reluctant to get into the barrels but Thorin basically says 'do what Bilbo tells you' and they eventually do. After releasing all the Barrels down the hatch Biblo realises that there is no Barrel left for him before accidently finding his way out barrel-less. Really funny scene here. Then we saw a bit of the dwarves on the boat post barrel sequence with Bard requiring money to transport them. They all give up everything they have, (though Gloin needed a reminder of their end goal again before coughing up.) The dwarves are very mistrustful of Bard here. As they approach Laketown (which looks iiinncreddible) they are forced back into barrels while Bard barters their way in before they are all covered in fish to hide themselves. This was probably my favourite scene. Balin and Bilbo in the tunnel was next. With Balin telling Bilbo to look for the arkenstone which I think he described as a 'large white gem'. After some great dialouge (which is in the new trailer) about the courage of Hobbits, Biblo continues into Smaugs lair. Finally we see Bilbo creeping through the treasure looking for the Arkenstone. Very much playing on the idea of a needle in a haystack here. It was really funny. After picking up a chalice, a heap of coins dislodge and Smaugs eye is revealed. Slowly more and more of Smaug is seen as the coins and jewels continue to fall away. This was both funny (for us) yet terryfying (for Bilbo). I really liked the way they handle the reveal. And that was it! Fantastic stuff. I can't wait to see the rest. Oh and yea the song was aaawweessome.

and as I said they had a comedic tone to them, well at least I felt they did. They weren't sort of dark and scary voices like I thought they would be. To me they were quite similar to the trolls in AUJ, not in their accents or anything but their tone - i.e one sort of comedic.

but I seem to recall there being things along the lines of "this one looks tasty". But when Bilbo stabs one of the spiders it says "That stings" or something like that. Which obviously leads to Bilbo naming Sting

Does Bilbo taunt the spiders with an attercop or tomnoddy? Any indication he had it on during his encounter with Smaug?
Faramir: “I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”

but as I said, some of the scenes felt heavily edited in order to specifically focus on things. So there may have been portions of the sequence edited out.

Did he say the "There was nothing more he could tell me" line? How explicit is the beheading? Implied or like Aragorn/Lurtz?

As well as Legolas' "There was more the orc could tell us." We see Thranduil suddenly turn and strike the orc and just as he does we cut to the orcs head which all of a sudden is only being held up by Legolas as the rest of the body has fallen to the ground. And no. It finished just as all of Smaug was going to be revealed and then showed the last bits of the 2nd trailer again.

PJ confirmed it prior to showing the footage. Unfortunately its difficult to really give any thoughts on the music from an event like this. I was so focused on what was on the screen I couldn't really take in the music.
