Gutted ... [In reply to] Can't Post

While I can't stand him (sorry Ed), I'll wait and listen to the song first. The composition, music and lyrics *might* make it all better.

Can't they have chosen someone other than the flavour of the month? He's overrated, in my opinion.

Aw no. [In reply to] Can't Post

I really hate Ed Sheeran's brand of acoustic pop. It plays a lot at my work and his sort of mushy lyrics really annoy me (although there are some darker undertones here and there). I'll give him a chance to surprise me with this song though.

Apparantly... [In reply to] Can't Post

... some sort of NDA fell with the fan-event.

I did not even know him, though recognized some music when I youtubed him.

Certainly has the talent to do what Neil Finn did for AUJ so nicely.

An inspired choice... [In reply to] Can't Post

His moody vocals make me feel like we'll be getting another song in the vein of "Gollum's Song".

Let's see what happens... Cool

Video [In reply to] Can't Post

Since Sheeran has very popular (In the UK at least) the last couple of years I wonder if we might get an actual music video to accompany the song this time round?

Geez, what a day of news! [In reply to] Can't Post

I haven't heard any of Sheeran's stuff, so I don't have much to say either way. But it's great to know! I'll be sure to listen to his music to get a good feel for his work.

Looking forward to this tonight, if the source is legitimate.

It goes live on iTunes later tonight, stand by for the links later on

The song is called 'I See Fire'

I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it

Big up Peter Jackson and his team for giving me the opportunity

It's also the first solo song I've released in over 2 years, it's not on the new album though, that fun starts next year

Great commercial move.. [In reply to] Can't Post

and I can`t help thinking it was one of the main reasons why they choose him too Tongue

Wouldn`t have guessed it in a million years that Ed Sheeran would do a song for The Hobbit!

And the song. We heard ( sorry, didn’t get his name) whoever wrote the song to be played during the ending credits – he sang it. It’s a lovely, moving ballad, and even without having seen the film, I was really moved to tears. I think it’s called I See Fire, or maybe Smoke and Fire, anyway ” I see fire” is the refrain. There’s a beautiful line in it, “keep watching over Thorin’s sons.” ( Thorin has sons?) , and another, ” If we die tonight, we die together.”

The song was perfect, really perfect. [In reply to] Can't Post

I'll be singing that one forever and crying. Cried through the whole thing - but as one friend said, "You do that anyway!"
There was no applause in Wellington when it finished; the audience sat quietly because everyone was simply mesmerised. Then Peter came on the screen immediately - and you don't want to drown out Peter. Wink

You'll all hear it soon enough, it seems, and I'm glad for that. Enjoy!

I've been listening to some of his stuff online [In reply to] Can't Post

I hadn't heard of him at all but I'm pleased to find that he has done some traditional ballads - even though he puts his own spin (and a bit modern one, at that) on them. Listening to Wayfaring Stranger, I was reminded of Jack White singing that song for the Cold Mountain soundtrack and I admire what Jack does with music. I kind of like Ed doing his own thing, as well.

I'm so glad to hear you liked it ... nay, loved it, it seems. I'm quite looking forward to hearing it.

I'm kind of anxiously checking Twitter for some sign from WaterTower that it (or a sample) is available for listening. However, my bedtime looms. :-)
