Glad I am getting the box set. [In reply to] Can't Post

That one looks... underwhelming at best ;)

Surprised! [In reply to] Can't Post

I think it's lovely! Really nice, yet I too would prefer the box set and I think the design could still be improved. Overall - very good! Smile

Saw a box of them at my Walmart yesterday [In reply to] Can't Post

I work in the electronics department at Walmart (hey, I'm only 20 and it's a good-paying job whilst I go through college Laugh) and I pulled out the box that had the extended editions and literally freaked out. Really wish I could've gotten it, but I have to wait till Monday night to get it unfortunately. I made sure the box was put away carefully and everything. Tongue. When I saw the case yesterday I actually really liked it. Nice and simple. But what I noticed is that Walmart will only be carrying a 2-Disc DVD version with a different cover than the one posted on say Amazon. The cover consists of Bilbo, Thorin, and Gandalf, and only 2 discs: disc 1 is part 1 of the film, and disc 2 is part 2 with only 2 appendices features (Company of Thorin and another one, I forgot). I didn't even see the supposed 5-disc edition with the Company on the Carrock. Doesn't matter, getting the Blu-ray version at midnight Monday, but might also get the DVD version just to have as a Christmas gift).

...I wonder why they couldn't just stick with the same design as the LotR EEs. Must be one of WB's "improvements"...

Gorgeous box... [In reply to] Can't Post

I really like this packaging. Love the embossing on the slipbox. The design is in keeping with the LotR EE Blu-ray package (I'm glad they go with black cases - I loathe the standard blue ones).

For those lamenting about a lack of continuity with the LotR EE DVDs - they DVD package is actually in line with those releases. It only makes sense that the Blu-ray package would be more streamlined in keeping with the LotR Blu-ray set.

The LOTR BluRay design (SEE) was rather poor to start with.
However, I am getting the DVD version as well, in order to make an own version of the slipcase in LOTR SEE DVD design.

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

It's much more in line with the LOTR EEs, and I think I'd rather have the better designed box than the crisper images just for 13 extra minutes. I could care less about a slightly lesser image quality for the bonus feature, which is the real reason I'm buying the EE.
