so if it wasnt for the marketing team at odeon reminding me via email that the hobbit desolation of smaug is now available to prebook, i might not have just spent a fortune on the queens seat at the leicester square odeon. i presume thats where she sits, its called the royal circle and its bang in the middle! anyway i didnt think id be as eager this time around! lol still annoyed that bfi imax cant do a hfr 70mm 3d showing, that would be awesome, did anyone see the bfi imax presentation non hfr last year? im tempted!

our nearest 3D screen is a Cineworld cinema- not a mention of DoS, even in the "Coming soon" section!!
Is there a Tolkien topic that you have wanted to look into more deeply and write about your thoughts on it? If so, we'd like to hear from you for the next TORn Amateur Symposium- coming in November. Happy writing!

We have a choice between good old "World of Cine" and Vue, and they don't mention it yet either... EDIT: Spoke too soon. Vue mention it, but only in terms of offering you an email alert once tickets are available.

how very curious! must be an odeon thing? maybe as they are such a big chain they are capable of arranging all the necessary systems for the prebooked tickets? but surely the other cinemas will be missing out if everyone prebooks there tickets at odeon first? im sure the other cinemas will catch up soon!

Are Odeon really bigger? I don't even know of an Odeon anywhere near us, and will always opt for Cineworld for preference, as one is less than 15 minutes drive away (Northampton) and the other around 20 minutes (Milton Keynes). I note there is apparently also an Odeon in Milton Keynes but I have no recall of seeing it in the seven year's we've lived in these parts.

living in one of my old stamping grounds! MK has changed hugely in the last 10 years though- the only cinema I remember was the one in the neon pyramid thingy!

I'm getting the trailer, but no booking option on that page. Well, unless I want to go to London, which at £28 for a return rail ticket at a sensible time makes for a VERY expensive cinema trip EDIT: Suddenly there are more options, though still not MK or Northampton yet. I think they may be adding them piecemeal.

I saw AUJ at the BFI IMAX last year

And it was fantastic. I saw someone on their Facebook page today complain of the motion blur but when people use the sort of internet hyperbole in their postings as they did (" I felt like my eyes were raped and stomach turned inside out after watching The Hobbit in BFI IMAX last year") it loses any meaning to me - if you have to exaggerate that much to make your point then perhaps it isn't a point worth making? Anyway, perhaps it depends on the angle - I sat about two-thirds back in the centre and had no problems at all. I thought it looked (and sounded) incredible. Still, you'd better be quick if you want to go opening weekend - the tickets are selling fast for their screenings. Which also shows that it must have looked fine to most people last year Got mine booked for the BFI IMAX 3D on Sunday 22nd! Have also got lined up (but don't need to book tickets for) a midnight staff screening in 2D on the 13th (or 12th, depending on how you look at it) and a midday screening in 3D at another local cinema on the 13th (I saw all three LOTR and AUJ there on opening days so it's tradition). Plus plans for another 2D screening with my fiancée's parents, a digital IMAX visit with an old New Zealand travel buddy and an HFR 3D viewing, which will probably be by myself as my fiancée will be sick of it by then Oh, and a screening of An Unexpected Journey: Extended Edition on the big screen the week before, to warm up.

i could never justify spending so much money on seeing the same film!! lol its hfr all the way for me! thats what puts me off the bfi imax, which is a shame, im seeing it at the odeon leicester square opening day hfr 3d , midday screening! best seat in the house, id rather comfort and quietness above multiple viewings. i saw bond at bfi imax , which was great, but dont think was anything spectacularly better screen wise. im still searching for that perfect cinema to watch it in. swiss cottage last year was ok for 3d hfr, which was apparently an imax screen??

The staff screening is obviously free, as is the midday one on the 13th and the one with the future in-laws, and the digital IMAX one is being paid for by my friend. I can justify paying twice And comfort/queitness and multiple viewings aren't mutually exclusive. I saw an AUJ in the cinema seven times on release and loved and cherished it each time - I never watched it just for the sake of it or to get a high viewing number. And the only one I can think of where crowds were an issue was the BFI IMAX which was opening weekend and sold out - even then it was fantastic to see it with fans and families and there were no disturbances at all. In fact, the only time I can recall any noise at any of my screenings was seeing it in digital IMAX about four weeks into the run and, right at the end, Smaug's eye opens, the screen cuts to black and the woman behind me just muttered a shocked "oh my god!". Which I loved, the fact that Smaug's awakening hit her so hard! So multiple viewings and comfort/quietness for me if last year is anything to go by.

Back row at the new IMAX at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. When I saw AUJ at the Printworks last year from the third row, it was all a bit much!! Bring it on!

I went to the Printworks last year too! Opening night, when did you go? I'm so excited with the fact we both went. I'm going to Printworks again this year except I've booked earlier and apparently there is no HFR which I can live without.
I simply walked into Mordor.

I can't remember exactly when I went, but it was a couple of weeks after release and my third viewing. So it's not showing it in HFR this time? I've got to say I loved it so I'm glad I've booked the Trafford Centre this time (as I didn't actually notice the Printworks wasn't).
