Bolgs design not changed after all! Can't Post

On the homepage is an article, talking about TORn's interview with Conan Stevens (who plays Bolg). They even conducted this interview "over the last couple weeks".
So anyways, Conan Stevens not only talks about his role as Bolg, which puts the rumours of Lawrence makoare recast as bolg to rest, but more importantly, he puts rumours of blogs redesign to rest when he is asked about his prosthetics.

Awesome! Nothing to worry about!

Yes.. [In reply to] Can't Post

I was delighted to read about this. I agree it's nigh confirmation, especially since the interview was only conducted within a week or so. Conan IS playing Bolg and it sure sounds to me as though he will still be in full prosthetics. If any major design overhauls were made to his character, they surely would have been made more than a week or so ago and Conan would have almost certainly mentioned this in the interview. This is excellent news!!

I think Bolg has been replaced in certain scenes [In reply to] Can't Post

I think he originally was going to be at Dol Guldur but it looks like they've pasted over him with Azog. I'm expecting his appearance to be much more like the book - at the Bo5A.

But it's great to hear his design is still the same, we need more prosthetic orcs!

He might not even know if he has been cut/replaced [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think the interviewer does either.

Hopefully not.

Surely [In reply to] Can't Post

They'd do him the courtesy of telling him by now? Fair enough if Bolg's role has been reduced somewhat, but to create new CGI Bolg with another actor and continue to mislead Conan would be hugely unprofessional of Jackson and co.

Carne... [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree. There is no way in hell at this point Conan would not have been aware he's been entirely replaced if it were so. Conan IS playing Bolg and he will not be fully CGI. To what degree he will feature in the movies is still up to debate.

Ideally the are indeed keeping Stevens in prosthetics as Bolg... [In reply to] Can't Post

But then why the comment that Bridge Direct has had to pull the toy from their action figure line (when they already had a Bolg figure released with the AUJ wave)? Something's not adding up here...could they have simply placed a slightly-reworked CGI Bolg over the practical Stevens Bolg with the actor in question still doing the voice?

Oh, the Orc shuffling in these films! Blush

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

"Bolg's been bumped to Film 3", rather than the redesign comment?

I said I hope he hasn't been cut [In reply to] Can't Post

Don't get what was naive about it, it's just that things are pointing to Bolg being cut or turned into a CG character.

Especially with Bridge Direct recalling their figures due to design changes. Plus there has been no word on Lawrence Makoare being involved in any way until the newest synopsis, pointing at him joining the cast during the pick-ups this year. For him to be credited along with the rest of the cast it's certainly not a tiny role.

With Azog being CG they might have wanted to change Bolg's design into something that resembles his brother even more, or moved the character to TABA.

That's just my guess anyways.

the Bolg toy [In reply to] Can't Post

Maybe Bridge Direct just wasn't satisfied with their toy design and decided at the last minute to pull it, having nothing to do with the movies at all. Perhaps people just assumed otherwise. I never read the article. Does the article actually say it was due to Weta's design change"?

I thought this too... [In reply to] Can't Post

but then you can clearly see Bolg's silhouette at the bottom-right of the latest official poster for Desolation (which just showed up within the last day or two) So, I'm pretty confident he's in the second movie indeed.

well [In reply to] Can't Post

But it is a bit suspicious both LEGO and Bridge DIrect would not release their previously intended Bolg figures.

Is the actor saying at any point he is the the movie? or is he jsut talking abut what work he did on it?

If PJ didnt like his azog preformance why would PJ find him any better as Bolg??

True.. [In reply to] Can't Post

I still think Conan participating in that brand new interview is a strong indication he will A: be playing Bolg, B: probably feature in film 2 and certainly in film 3 and C: Be at least partial prosthetics. If you read the interview in full, these three points seem rather evident.

This supposed new DOS poster just doesn't look like a movie poster [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think they would release a poster with neither Bilbo, Thorin or Gandalf on it. And what's about that big sword on the right? The composition suggests this is a picture made specifically for the board game.

Conan Stevens WAS announced on PJ's blog as being Azog... [In reply to] Can't Post

In June/July 2011...(at which time PJ mused that Orcs never seem to have a normal name like "Dennis", though I suppose "Dennis the Defiler" doesn't have quite the same ring to it). Evidently, the Stevens Bolg design was originally going to be Azog, before they decided to use it for as Bolg instead, so as far as we know, Stevens was recast as Bolg before they starting filming the role, and John Rawls was cast as the smaller Azog.
