The Hobbit used to advertise a credit card

My son is in France right now, and took this photo of an advertisement for a credit card. The words read, more or less, "With the card WE LOVE CINEMA you’ll never finish profiting from the movie." (If anyone who speaks better French than I do would like to correct my translation, please do.) Hmmm.

Is there a Tolkien topic that you have wanted to look into more deeply, and write about your thoughts on it? If so, we'd like to hear from you for the next TORn Amateur Symposium- coming in November. Happy writing!

The end of Gandalf's character ...

Since Galadriel is the strongest in all of Middle-earth, and she carries him away? I'm guessing it has something to do with the card itself, rather than the films. "The end of paying extortionate prices for theatre tickets?"

...that the "The End" indicates that if you have the credit card then the movie will never end for you, you'll get a rebate for using it to buy movie tickets or something like that. Using the font and Gandalf and all seems pretty crass, but that's marketing for you. I assume Visa paid a considerable fee for the privilege of using the imagery.

Your translation is correct as far as meaning. http://www.noodls.com/view/4DB78E86A7F7C00DD87E76E0F25D5C9A1CFFAD2C Is a (French) article describing the new card in more detail, Apparently cardmember benefits include access to a website which will have some exclusive film-related content (like interviews and extra scenes) and contests to win things like tickets to premieres, DVDs, and film-related merchandise. The card with partner with 10 movies per year to provide these benefits. (Presumably, one of the 10 movies in the coming year is DoS...)

Would be ironic if it offered a discount at jewelry stores too.

It sounds like a pretty good deal for someone who's really into movies. Now if someone here on TORn will take out the card, get access to the extra material, and share with the rest of us.... I wonder if this offer will be available in other countries.

ars that the words "The End" are breaking apart. If so then maybe that means that the release of The Hobbit is not the end of the profits for the card holder? Just an idea...

It is a short statement about the credit card followed by The End i.e the end of the statement which is a play on film endings where in the old days 'the end' came up. In countries where irony is used a lot (not so much the US) as a device the term 'the end' is used from time to time at to conclude short statements, in an ironic or slghtly sarcastic way (i.e. a statement of the bleeding obvious).
