Lol, hologram, that was too funny [In reply to] Can't Post

Awww, she must be in for her super adorable sons.

Anyway, if she filmed for 8 days out of 300, than her apeparance at Dol Guldur sounds like deus ex machina, just pops up to save the day, which is in line with Gandalf ex Machina in AUJ when you think of it. Laugh

But, yeha, gives food for thought about the placement of Dol Guldur in the movies.

It's a bit too vague to tell, isn't it? [In reply to] Can't Post

She doesn't know she won't be in DOS, just says she might not be.

At a guess, perhaps that means that there won't be another White Council meeting, just Gandalf and Radagast doing whatever they're doing, and she won't appear until the climax of the Dol Guldur storyline, which will be in the third film.... but honestly, there are so many guesses there as to make it pretty pointless. And then, she might be in DOS after all.

I suppose that's how it works. She filmed for eight days; she must know what scenes she filmed, but she probably has no idea how they will cut them and where they will fit with the rest. Magical mystery tour - wait and see!

Silly Yahoo ... it's not an exclusive. [In reply to] Can't Post

She said way back in December 2012 she wasn't entirely sure how many of the films she will be in. Angelic

I guess that is because she literally doesn't know what is in each of the 3 (2 remaining) films. She finished her filming before the 3 film split, so her guess may well be no better than hers. (And, at a guess, she doesn't want to give anything away).

Smile

Personally, I sure hope she is. She *is* Galadriel. And if since they have made all this effort to connect the 6 films together, they might as well have Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman appear in all 6 films. It would be nice to have all 4 throughout the hexalogy.

Well what she's really saying is she doesn't know [In reply to] Can't Post

so I don't think we're actually any the wiser. Crazy She did only film for 8 days though so that's not much to spread on three movies.

She's not been featured in any of the marketing so far, and she was quite heavily so for the first movie, so that might be a clue. If there's no glimpse of her in the second trailer (if we even get one) then I'd be inclined to believe that she really won't be in DoS. But I'm not sure what their motive would be to leave both the attach to Dol Guldur and BoFA to the last movie.

I'll join Cate's sons in hoping she'll be in the second one as well.

One step closer [In reply to] Can't Post

This brings my theory that the final battle at Dol Guldur will be in TABA, which means that all we will see in DOS is Raddy and Gandalf investigating the old fortress, only to see Gandalf get captured (one of the main cliff hangers). Raddy may be able to escape (again) and warn Galadriel, who will bring an elf army for a nice show down at Dol Guldur in TABA.

This kind of makes sense, as there is a lot of ground to cover in DOS - Beorn, Mirkwood spiders, Thrandriul, Lake Town, and Erebor and show down with Smaug.

This also leads me to believe the Smaug will probably get killed in the final scene of DOS, which leaves TABA to deal with the aftermath.

Of course, this is all speculation, as Cate has no control over the edit, but I assume she at least knows the storyline, and believes her story is closer towards the end of the tale.

8 days... [In reply to] Can't Post

...should be plenty of time for her to have filmed at least one or two more scenes besides the fight in Dol Guldur (not saying we'll get that many however). Blanchett's miniscule part in AUJ couldn't have taken more than a day or two worth of work for her.

Does anyone know if Cate was involved with the reshoots/pickups this year? [In reply to] Can't Post

It seems just about everyone else (bar Ian Holm and Christopher Lee) was back for at least a few days.

It makes total sense and I for one am relieved. I was worried they would try to cram too much in. I think this is a good move.

because as I already pointed out there will be one major event in the end of DOS and that will be either battle at Dol Guldur or Smaug's attack on Lake Town. If we won't see Galadriel in the second movie Smaug's death is more probably and they will show both battles in TABA, maybe one in prologue and the other in the second half of the movie. But "Gandalf get captured" thing is just ridicolous and I really hope they won't show us such foolish thing. It would be the best for him to escape together with Radagast after he discover the true nature of the Necromancer and return back to Rivendell to inform the others of his discovery.

It had been mentioned that Galadriel carried (fake not Mckellen)Gandalf out of Dol Guldur. So she might be in DOS.

Then again... [In reply to] Can't Post

...given Blanchett's level of certainty, she might be in DoS and not in TaBA. There is little for Galadriel to do once the attack on Dol Guldur is concluded.

What a mine of information you are. [In reply to] Can't Post

When I listened to the recent interview I knew there was a more revealing one from late last year. What comes over very clearly in this interview is the clarity of her arc. She makes a promise and will fulfil it. She may also listen in or be at a second gathering of the council but I am certain she is DOS.

To place her pay off way into the nine hours (after Smaugs exit for instance) would require a good deal of the casual audience. I think many of the secondary arcs will cover two films Beorn Tauriel Legolas,Thranduil (2/3) and Galadriel/Elrond/Saruman/Radagast 1/2 leaving the big three and the 12 for all three movies and Azog.

It is not impossible though, consider Galadriel's pay off for Frodo, which I believe the G/G payoff will echo and refract with the Phial coming into view, was 1/3 but in that original interview she definitely thought two movies and it felt like 1 and 2. Her more recent offering may also to be deliberately evasive which is much more fun!

Total agreement here. Gandalf escapes, on his own power, and alerts the council of the true danger facing them. [In reply to] Can't Post

I suppose they could have him telepathically send messages for aid. . . but that really would make a mess of things, in my mind. I don't think it happens anyway, since we see him with Legolas in the Dale ruins in DOS vlog footage, and that almost certainly is after his individual espionage in Dol Guldur.
