The Mouth of Sauron

The Mouth of Sauron is an interesting and mysterious character. I thought his portrayal in the EE was good. The Romanian accent reminded me of Bela Lugosi, and his appearance I thought was evilly spooky. I'm not so sure on the big headpiece he wore though, but the pale skin, the sharp teeth and blood coming out of his mouth made him uber spooky. What did you think of his appearance in the films? Are there any sources that describe what he looked like? When reading the novel, what did you picture the Mouth of Sauron to look like?

I kind of pictured the mouth of Sauron to look something like the Grim Reaper simply because of how tense Tolkien's description of him was in the book. His appearance in the movie definitely sent a shiver up my spine.

I love that they made his mouth so big. It really adds to his creepiness!

He's pure evil. Also, I just love the way he says truly evil things covered up by polite words. Adds to his creepiness. I think maybe -just maybe- it would have been better to have Aragorn battle tMoS instead of ''just'' another troll.

In my mind, the Mouth of Sauron is like a cross between the Grim Reaper and Azriel the Angel of Death.

Even if it would've been a change from the novel, it at least would have added drama, and showed the pure evil of Mouth of Sauron.

PJ said that he has those open wounds around his mouth cause the evil he speaks is physically hurting him. and when he talks you can see them opening. it's kind of gross but cool lol

But the initial designs for his face have me in stitches every time.

It's in the Extended Edition's 'behind-the-scenes' stuff of ROTK. His mouth was a vertical slit - it looked hilarious. It was an initial design, shown only very briefly. And also quickly gotten rid of... Then again, I can't remember exactly - it was shown on a screen of one of the guys from Weta Digital. Maybe they were just fooling around and it wasn't a design at all.

that's where it is. it took me a while to find it I thought I had just imagined it but there it is. turning the mouth vertical was PJs idea he thought that the character needed something else to make him creepier because he thought people would be disappointed. But they realized how stupid it looked so they just took his mouth and enlarged it by 200% anyway here are 2 pics one of the Vertical mouth Of Sauron and the before and after of the enlargement http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=r9o16w&s=5 http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=5xsy2f&s=5

...The Mouth of Sauron was included in the theatrical version. I can understand PJ's reasons for not putting him in, but I thought it was a great character moment for Aragon. It shows that he has utter faith in the midst of insurmountable odds.
