An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition given rating Can't Post

We've known for a while that there would be an Extended Edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Warner Bros.' press release back in March, at the time of the release of the Theatrical Edition DVD and Blu-ray, said that the Extended Edition would be 'available just in time for the holidays'. Now we've learned that this extended cut has been given a rating by The Motion Picture Association of America. Their bulletin (seen here) gives the movie the same rating as it had in theatrical release, PG-13. But here's the interesting part - in theatres, the PG-13 rating was for 'intense fantasy action violence and frightening images.' Here's what the rating says for the extended version:

'Rated PG-13 for extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, frightening images and fleeting nudity.'

'...and fleeting nudity.' Now that is something to ponder. A glimpse of the dwarves wrecking Bilbo's bathroom? A scene where Bilbo leaves his house in such haste, he forgets more than his pocket handkerchief?! Being serious for a moment, what could this be? My best guess is some dwarvish high jinks; what do you think?

Thanks to ringer spies kirkempk and An anonymous Ringer for bringing this to our attention!

Maybe... [In reply to] Can't Post

...MPAA has just realized that in the previous theatrical rating they oversaw some obvious fleeting nudity:

- Gollum wears nothing but a loinscloth,
- So does Great Goblin and most of the goblins for that part
- Not to forget Azog
- And the three trolls.

So yes, there's a lot of fleeting nudity already present. Maybe it's just the first time MPAA saw it as such.

Dwarf wedgie? [In reply to] Can't Post

As stated in another post, could this claim made by PJ (in the August 2011 issue of Empire magazine) somehow be actually true?

hobbit hijinks? [In reply to] Can't Post

To take it in a different direction, I was thinking it could be something in the scene with Gandalf meeting Bilbo as a child.

Similar to the Merry/Pippin fireworks scene in FOTR, there could be hobbits messing about with some of Gandalf's fireworks and we could see a hapless hobbit running about with his pants burned away - perhaps a quick glimpse of hobbit butt.

Young Bilbo could even be involved with the stunt somehow, to give him a mischievous streak.

Interesting discovery! The truth is in the details some might say. I do wonder though what this ''fleeting nudity'' could be. I can't think of no moment where this might be occuring. But I am thinking more of a dwarf bare chest or something of the kind. Nothing contreversial ( I hope)

What if it is Gollum... [In reply to] Can't Post

...say when he's running around or something (hence, "fleeting"). Then the rating difference between the theatrical and extended editions would mean more Riddles in the Dark!

Nah... [In reply to] Can't Post

Male bare chests don't contribute to PG-13 ratings. (Not even to PG ratings-).

I am afraid [In reply to] Can't Post

it could be Bombur getting pantsed and mooning the camera at some point. No evidence, just a hunch. I hope I'm wrong.

Coverage of certificate? [In reply to] Can't Post

Does the rating certificate for a DVD issue refer to just the film itself, or to the film plus any additional material on the discs? If the latter, there could be some behind-the-scenes antics that got the "fleeting nudity" flag, rather than something in the EE itself.

Does anyone know yet what extras will be on the EE discs this time? (maybe this has already been discussed in a thread, but I've missed it, if so.)

Just the film [In reply to] Can't Post

as far as I'm aware. Normally the back of the cover will say something like "bonus content not rated."

As wicked fools I scorned them, but I pity them at last.
For if this is indeed, as the Eldar say, the gift of the One to Men,
it is bitter to receive." -Arwen Undómiel

Who Is In The Waterfall [In reply to] Can't Post

My vote is for Tauriel in the waterfall, possibly observed by one of the other male cast (or female - who cares?).

If they're looking for sales to the male youth demographic, they'd be smart to go this way. Actually, just make it the entire male demographic. Oh, and I guess if you make the observing male shirtless, everyone wins.

It was the first thing that came to mind... [In reply to] Can't Post

But I'm a Thorin type of girl. I wouldn't mind Fili.Tongue
If I'm correct in my observations, the only shirtless people in any Middle-earth movie were Gollum, Frodo and the top half of Gandalf's chest.

My Aunt and I had this discussion before. Fran and Philippa need to worm something about shirtless dwarves into the scripts...

yes, but Tauriel is not in the first movie.
You will have to wait for the second movie for this one ;)
