Walk to Rivendell and Beyond: There and Back Again Challenge! Can't Post

Nightmare vision: Fili & Kili in full battle regalia linking arms, skipping down the Road singing "Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to the Lonely Mountain we go!"

Can I just say how profoundly glad I am that whole Disney story on the front page was an April Fool's joke? And, hey, wherever your feet/wheels/swim fins/etc take you in Middle Earth, tell us about it!

There and Back Again
Group Challenge Progress

Miles reported last week: 135.2
Cumulative miles: 12703.88
Miles along the journey: 846.93
Miles out of Rivendell: 449.93

Oh, goody. Congratulations, Bilbo, you've named your letter-op... uh... sword. We're happy for you. Now could you use it to get us out of these spider coccoons!

My progress:
Miles covered this week: 7
Cumulative miles: 512
Goal: There and Back Again!

I've been felled by a cold this week. It hit the day after that intense singing I did all weekend. Harrumph. But at least it didn't knock my mileage back too badly... And Beamer and I have managed to shake off those horrid goblins.

Beamer's progress:
Miles covered this week: 2
Cumulative miles: 518
Goal: Group Challenge

It's Spring Break, so her mileage is down a bit; I haven't figured out the mileage conversion for all the roughhousing she and my Hobbit have been doing. But today, we're off to the indoor ziplining place, so she'll have some sort of mileage from tha

More gardening before we had a little cold front! [In reply to] Can't Post

I managed to get some more nut grass pulled out of the garden. Unfortunately, the bit of rain we've had this week caused the survivors to rally. I wonder if you can eat/stew/preserve/mix-in-a-witch's-brew nut grass...

I also got around to cleaning out the flower beds. I'm a month late on those, too. I cut out all the dead stuff to make way for the new. We also have some rogue creeping thyme that I pull way back each year. That stuff is almost as bad as nut grass for spreading! The difference is, of course, that I like the thyme! Laugh

I did some massive spring cleaning, but of course, five days later you can't tell...

Miles since last time: 25.6
Cumulative miles: 675.75

I am SMAUG! I kill when I wish! I am strong, strong, STRONG!

The shock of my tail, a thunderbolt! My wings, a hurricane! And my breath, death!

Laaazy week for me... [In reply to] Can't Post

Between Easter holidays with my family, school holidays for my daughter, Camp NaNoWriMo starting and rather more Christmasy weather than is seasonal (Easter egg hunt in the snow - good thing my Dad has outbuildings that we could use, although we never did find that last nest I had prepared...) I had a rather lazy week. Still, I think I have hobbled past the trolls, haven't I? Nasty things, those.

Miles covered this week: 18.1
Cumulative miles: 337.3
Goal: There and Back Again!

Hopefully next week will be better...

Howdy Fellow Walkers! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so sorry you've been sick, Arandiel :( Spring Break is definitely NOT the time to be under the weather.

I'm running around getting ready for a huge job next Saturday... trying to find, interview, and hire 8 workers for the day AND set up a second job the same day at the same time in a different building :? I administer MTTC tests for teacher certification (for college grads) and ACT (for high-schoolers). This test that normally needs 18-22 workers is calling for 36 workers! I'll be seeing about 850+ examinees that day and running back and forth between the 2 sites!

So I'm enjoying my time with Gandalf as we take our time getting past Weathertop on our way to Hobbiton. Thankfully the weather is turning nice and the birds that travelled south for the winter are once again filling the air with song :D

Take care everyone, and thanks for keeping us on the road Arandiel :)

Miles covered: 22
Cumulated miles: 1912
Goal: #2 Unexpected Journey Individual Challenge and contributing to the Group :)

Spring Break here as we'll. [In reply to] Can't Post

Here being the FL panhandle.

Greetings fellow walkers, runners, ellipticators, singers, pickers, grinners, dreamers, cleaners, bikers, hikers and month-late gardeners. Since it's early, the sun is just rising and no one else is up yet, I dropped in for a brief update. I can only report a 5k that I ran down here last Saturday plus hours of shelling. Numbers will be forthcoming next week.

One more day at the beach then back to the old salt mines.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A few harmless flakes working together can unleash an avalanche of destruction.

I'm going on a five mile hike today which is further than [In reply to] Can't Post

I have walked in a while. I think I'll be fine, though. My feet will be sore. Sunday is the SPCA's walk for the animals which I do every year. I've raised some money but will probably do the short walk or just shop. It's a great event with lots of freebies.

Gardening question [In reply to] Can't Post

I got a tulip plant for Easter. I'd like to plant them in the yard but I know you plant bulbs in the fall. Can I plant them now & if not how do I store them for fall planting?

I about had a heart attack for the April Fools Joke.... [In reply to] Can't Post

I saw it through a link a friend put up on facebook, and I told her my first reaction was "Pfhtowha?" "(as in unintelligible) and then "Wha-that-no--ah-....it's GOT TO BE JOKE!!!" Oh, the relief. ;D I knew it had to be though. Just the thought of it was enough for a reaction!

Here's my mileage for this week guys! Keep going strong!

miles this week: 9.8
cumulative: 976
goal: there and back again group challenge!

Keep up the good work! Spring is here! HeartLaugh

"It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And you didn't want to know the end...for how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But then you realize in the end it's just a passing thing, this shadow. A new day will come! And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stuck with you, that meant something. Even if you were too small to understand. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. The folk in those stories a lot of chances of turnin' back only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holdin' on to something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for!"

Your potted tulip was most likely 'forced' to bloom [In reply to] Can't Post

in an unnatural environment and has used up its stored energy without much opportunity to replenish it. You could try planting it now and feeding it, but whatever you do...do not cut the leaves back! Not until they are all brown and withered, anyway. That gives tulips a better chance of coming back and doing well the next year, but honestly, the odds really aren't good for a forced bulb. :/

Week 14? - April 7 [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Two steps forward and 1 step back.

The weather has improved. Spring might finally be here. But I seem to prove myself more of an idiot on a regular basis.

I over did it again and had to stop today’s walk on the first really beautiful day of the year after what I hope is just the mother of all foot cramps. Luckily, I was near to ending my trail and didn’t have to hobble far. Thank Varda for my camera’s monopod for a walking stick.

I’m going to give tomorrow an official day off and then, if healthy, start daily walking short distances.

Miles since last post: 14
Total: 150
Personal Goal – Erebor: 69.9
To Go: 897.1

P.S.: I stopped weighing myself daily after my last injury. I’m relieved that I didn’t gain anything back and content that I maintained last Autumn’s loss over the winter. I have slowly started to lose again, but I’ll wait to confirm the trend first before posting that progress.

'There is some woe that lies upon you... Why will you not tell me more?'
'For that woe is past,' said Galadriel; 'and I would take what joy is here left, untroubled by memory. And maybe there is woe enough yet to come, thought still hope may seem bright.'

2 weeks worth of miles. [In reply to] Can't Post

I was out of town again, but managed to get my running in.

Milies to contribute to the group: 45 miles
Total miles: 318
Goal: There and Back Again

I'm camping in the valley, 5 days from Weathertop. Nothing eventful happening; looks like the Nazguls have lost my trail. Hope to be in Rivendell in the next 5-6 weeks.
