Worst LOTR rumors that (thankfully) didn't come true....or did

As I am in college now, I was unable to participate in the excitement of LOTR being released in theaters since my parents deemed me too young to see it at the time. So this question is particularly directed at those who followed all the rumors regarding LOTR while it was being made. Here is my question: What is the worst rumor(s) you remember being circulated around TORN or other LOTR rumor site that made you relieved when it didn't happen on the screen, or did that rumor(s) sneak its way into the films nevertheless and make your nightmare(s) come true?
"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!' Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face. 'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''

Not really a rumor, but one look at the cast section of the Fellowship and reading the names of the actors originally asked to participate in the film...Sean Connery as Gandalf, Nic Cage as Aragorn...shudder at the thought.

Soooooo glad that never came true. I'm not a fan of his at all.

although you can still see her in at least one shot. Rumor I did want was Daniel Day Lewis as Aragorn. Viggo was excellent within the context of the movie character but DDL is physically very similar to how Aragorn is described in the book. I heard he was asked first even before Stuart Townsend but was not interested and/or available.

A Nazgul was supposed to case Gandalf and Pippin from Rohan to Minas Tirith. I'm not sure if that would've been a bad idea or not?

or, to be honest actually not, here's the quote: "Three days, as the Nazgul flies and you better hope we don't have one of those on our backs."

I just spent a couple of hours poking around there. Nothing like re-living the "old" days...
