The Hobbit Blu-Ray & DVD Combo from Wal Mart / 64 pg book

I posted this yesterday on my fan site for Aidan Turner: www.aidanturnerunited.com . I've been sending this info to friends and fans because I think it's a very good deal and combo package. Copied and pasted from my update: I went into Walmart to get a few incidental items and walked out with a The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey preorder package. So far, I think this is the only package that offers this type of bundle and at such a good price. The preorder card is actually a 3D collectible card, I chose Thorin but the other options were Gandalf or Bilbo. I didn’t see any other there, so perhaps there were more but they sold out of them. The bundle includes - Collectible 3D Card -Ultraviolet digital version of the movie available to watch as early as March 12, 2013-Exclusive *Free content only on VUDU Network -64 page book to be delivered with the DVD/Blu-Ray *Upon redeeming the code at VUDU.com Once you enter the redemption code at Vudu website, follow the on-screen instructions to create or log in to your free VUDU and UltraViolet accounts. Then you enter your mailing address of where you want the Blu-Ray combo pack shipped. The 4 featurettes will be added to your VUDU account and watched instantly only on VUDU. These are the directions from the packaging, there is a deadline to when these can be redeemed so keep that in mind when purchasing. Though, I know that if any of you buy this you won’t wait until June to watch the featurettes! This is Walmart’s promotion, I haven’t heard if Target or any other entertainment retailer is doing something similar. At the update is a picture of the 3D card of Thorin. http://www.aidanturnerunited.com/the-hobbit/walmart-preorder-blu-ray-dvd-combo-with-exclusive-content-and-book/ :D Hope this helps !

There isn't a WalMart near me, but thanks for the information! And I checked out your website. Very well done! I'll be checking in there often.

That's an excellent question and one I did ask myself. There is no info really about the book, but I have a feeling it's a visual guide of some sorts. The 4 featurettes that were free with the pre-order seem like that would be DVD extras.

Not directly from Walmart, but there is always Ebay and certain specialists score. Mine cost me £35, which is steep but to be honest I'd be looking at around $45 (£30ish) even if someone bought it and shipped it over at normal cost. I love digibooks and had to have this one of course.

Ebay is a possibility, but they don't make as much money from it. A limited worldwide release would make more $$$ for them.

As for importing, that's additional shipping costs, and isn't there a region problems for the DVD? Region 1 & Region 2?

Warner Blu-rays are always region free

So no worries there. The DVD will be region 1 but it's very easy to make DVD players capable of multi-region playback. Whatever way you look at it importing will be costly. But Warner never release digibooks in the UK. They sometimes do in France and Italy but there's no indication of that so far with The Hobbit. And with the prices on the Continent and postage you'd probably be looking at upwards of £25 anyway.

I am planning on getting a blu-ray player in the future, I guess it's inevitable seeing how the blu-ray is devouring the DVD market more each year and sooner or later DVD will be as dead as VHS.

to somehow get The Hobbit on VHS?! Vinyl records are coming back to a degree, so why not VHS as well? :D A limited VHS release of The Hobbit would have been cool! I would buy one!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. I have no idea if it still works, it's been in the loft ever since we got a DVD player. I imagine most people have one *somewhere* and have no idea whether it works or not.

What else would I play my vhs tapes on? Though the last time mine needed replacing, I was forced to buy one that also played DVDs, solo ones were not on sale anymore.
