No Desolation Code for Amazon pre-orders yet?
|

My first post, how's everybody doing? I pre-ordered The Hobbit on Amazon USA and there is no Desolation preview code? What gives? I notice that Amazon UK offers the code and that folks have already mentioned that they received their code for the Peter Jackson sneak peek. But my Amazon order offered nothing, nada and zip. Where the heck is my code? Anyone have any ideas what's going wrong with Amazon on this? I tried calling them but the person who tried to help just didn't have a clue about what I was describing.

You get your code with the bluray in the USA.

Outside the US, the bluray doesn't come out till April, so amazon have to send them out per email to people that preordered. Probably a few people complained and that's why they did it.

Yes, that certainly makes sense. But in my case the order states that the discs are scheduled shipment after the preview date - even on pre-order. They must have one heck of a lot of people pre-ordering in the US. So I may have to cancel the order and buy them locally instead of using my preferred seller which is Amazon. It seems strange that they don't implement the same strategy as Amazon UK since the preview will only be shown once and it all takes place online with a code. Amazon being the largest online seller should be distributing the code to everyone worldwide, or at least they should in theory.

The preview is on March 24. You'll probably have it in your hands on the 19th or 20th, if you're lucky even a day earlier (okay, that would be Sunday lol), no matter what it says on the amazon page (they are quite generous with their delivery date estimates so that people don't complain if their order doesn't come right the next day or two - i assume).

I think it's $8 or something and you get it the day it comes out.

...receive the code (which they mail right upon ordering) and then cancel the order.

Seems to obvious, doesn't it. I wonder if they keep track of orders and codes. It would make sense to cancel a code if the order is cancelled. But then again, are they that bothered? I've got my code. Ready and waiting.

I ordered the blu-rays from Amazon US a couple days ago. Will Amazon be emailing us a code? Or will WB be sending that email? How long after the order are the codes sent?

I assumed it would be in the box itself. I ordered from Amazon as well.

...then those of us who order from Amazon US (or UK) overseas are SOL! I'm in NZ, so it'll take several days (even weeks) for the box to arrive. The date of the DOS preview will be long gone. Hmm...
