Saw a few Twitter links, then found it on the main page of comingsoon.net Very interesting, yet I'm not surprised. This, IMO, is best for Jackson's Middle Earth as a whole. All December releases flows very nicely for me. I give it a thumbs up.

Mixed feelings. December releases for films of this type are more fittingly Magical and Enchanted, however. . .

every extra week is more time for some awful thing to happen that could come between a fan and seeing the movie, a notion that always sobers me.
"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Sure, it'll be a long wait, but one we're accustomed to. And, besides, it's only an extra five months. It wouldn't have seemed right seeing a Middle-earth movie in the summer. It has to be cold outside while waiting in line.

Christmas just feels right for these movies. Plus, now they have more time to work on it after DoS, which should mean a better movie.

I am absolutely thrilled with this. This is a very very good move. I was concerned about it coming out only 6 months after DoS. Good move on the part of WB. Jackson OWNS December and the holidays. Although I don't like waiting, I am very relieved and glad to see this.

I may have to wait a few extra months, but it will be worth it, and it will give the crew more time to work on There and Back Again. A good movie like The Hobbit should be released in December. Summer just didn't feel right. I think it's because that's the time when the supposedly , big summer movies come out, and then are forgotten a few months after. The Hobbit should not, and will not be forgotten.

It is fun to go to the movies in the summer, especially if it is a good one! But I like the consistency of having the Hobbit movies at the same time each year, especially around the holidays, when I have a chance to go with family.
'"Never laugh at live dragons, Bilbo you fool!" he said to himself, and it became a favourite saying of his later, and passed into a proverb.'

Its a bit more of a wait, but it will be worth it. And the pre Christmas tradition is so part of the pleasure. So here in the Northern US we will all be leaving with frozen, teary faces instead of sweaty, teary faces.

We don't know how many Oscars or Bafta's or Golden Globes for which TABA will be nominated. I think though placing it December fresh in the minds of the Academy voters is a far better move both artistically and monetarily. You want that film front and center when they get those DVD's. Good move by WB. Also, it gives Jackson a full year to edit it. I really really like that as well.

it's pretty darn certain that TABA will be PJ's last visit to ME, as well as our own. At least for quite awhile. Going to be hard to sit there and know it will be the last one to come. But...I did make a prediction in another thread today, and it was wrong in a mere 3 hours. So, who knows??

It's a December franchise! There was no way it was going to finish out in the middle of summer. So happy!

Going to the movies in December is pretty much like taking the pass of Charadras. But it's a magical time of the year, so the magical movie of the year should be released then.

I'm seriously convinced that this was just a ploy. I don't think there was ever any intention of releasing it in July. I'm glad to say we did all call this one
There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too. And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).

You're certainly not the only one, sauget, but I always laugh when I read how Middle-earth movies and summer just don't go together. How easily we forget that the whole southern hemisphere sees them during summer
