$300M at last (US ticket sales)

Finally AUJ crossed the $300 million mark, for US ticket sales. It seemed to take forever to reach that amount, especially over the past few weeks when sales were sluggish. At this rate, it seems like it'll take a few years to reach $310M! The curve certainly flattens, doesn't it? The next milestone is $1B worldwide. We like round numbers, don't we? I wonder what PJ's targets were?

so I'm very lucky. And I'll do my bit to add a tiny amount to the current total! Thanks for all your efforts to add even more details that I can look for.

Remember in addition to bad press on the HFR, Dec. 14th had the school shooting. I don't know about you guys but that event sucked the fun right out of me for the entire day. I woke up super excited that morning and felt like complete ass the rest of the day... This had to hurt the Hobbits opening numbers...

... is already updated, isn't it? I mean, it i already in the 659 Mio. But I guess there could come quite some millions in from South Korea (10-15 Mio) once it is updated. Some from India (maybe around 3-5 Mio)?!

It's gone now from where I live at all but one theater, and only playing once a day. I went the other day and the theater was more than half full still! And there were obviously people there who had never seen it before. So I think if it were still playing at more theaters, the numbers would be better. Of course I wish it would stick around....well, for a long, long time.

the countries that haven't appeared to have been updated have actually stopped showing the film. When you look at the BO details for one of those countries, the last statistical week that is shown usually has AUJ playing in a very small amount of theaters. So I'm pretty sure that the numbers are up to date, but they won't have details updated for countries that aren't playing it anymore.

It's the same here. I don't know very many movies though that stay in the cinema as long as say, RoTK or FoTR did. It seems now with DVD sales and streaming (not to mention downloading) that the quicker they can make money off it and scram the better. Again, I don't think WB's marketing was the best. Still, I wish it was going to be around longer.

It looks as though it is disappearing this week. The run was planned to go to 22 February, I believe. This is far too short, in my view – and especially when you compare it with the run for LOTR. At the cinema today (48 HFR) there were 55–60 people of all ages, including children and elderly couples, all enjoying the film. The countries that are having a longer run are so lucky! There is no film showing that interests me now, despite the plethora of releases.

Link. I looked just as it was released that the film had reached $300 in the U.S, and at the time, a handful of sites also reported it had reach $1 billion (obviously premature, and incorrect). I've looked this morning, and the majority of sites now say "will reach" $1 billion.

I'm not entirely sure what factors caused this to happen. May have been an issue of timing, such as with China's domestic film last weekend. Something I've noticed is the vast difference in theater counts for overseas nations. Many don't even have the 600+ screens that the U.S. has dwindled down to over two months from AUJ's debut. Just goes to show you, at least for Europe, that the value of the euro is scaringly low.
