I don't know about anyone else but I love Neil Finns song of the lonely mountain.now,as we had three great female artists performing the closing songs for the rings films,I'm wondering if it will be three male artists doing the songs for the hobbit trilogy.I thought it would be fantastic if Ian Anderson from jethro Tull was involved at some point as alot of folk/rock from that era was heavily influenced by tolkiens writing.maybe Robert plant as he was always putting Tolkien references in led zep songs,or possibly Richie blackmore (ex of deep purple) who is well versed in old English folk stuff with his blackmores night project.maybe even someone like sting who has turned his hand to that style of music now and again.I would dearly love to see Ian Anderson asked to contribute but what do you think,any ideas? Or even any clues as to who may have already been asked to record something.

Ian Anderson, Robert Plant and Sting. However, since Neil Finn came from a New Wave band, I'm wondering if they are going to keep up with that tradition? If so, Sting would be a good fit, seeing as he was was somewhat New Wave. If they keep going with New Wave artists, I think Phil Oakey of Human League would be a good choice. I don't his ties to Tolkien, (hopefully he's familiar), but he could be good. Nik Kershaw is another one. I don't know his Tolkien status either, but in the music video for "The Riddle", there is a scene that make me think of The hobbit

That's a possibility I hadn't thought of.from a personal point of view as an old metal head who likes a bit of folk music I'd love to see this theme continued as it really represents the dwarves very well,it just feels right.another I've just thought of is maybe to get clannad to do the final song as it would kind of bring things full circle with enya singing the song from FOTR.one can only hope

Ellen Kushner used to have a radio program called "Sound & Spirit", and she broadcast a show (pre-movies) about Tolkien-inspired music: The Lord of the Rings ; I think you can find a playlist there also for the music featured.
One of my favorites on that program was Brooks Williams version of "All That is Gold Does Not Glitter" featured on his CD "Back to Mercy". (I used to have a link to a YouTube clip of the song, but it's been removed.) I've since purchased the CD, just for that song.
There's a terrific CD out called "In Elven Lands"; my favorite on on there is a marvelous song about Earendil and Elwing.
I think that the Misty Mountain song is amazing! I love both the Dwarven version in the movie itself, and Neil Finn's version at the end. I hope that the next couple of movies will also feature Tolkien lyrics.
