I loved PJ's movie of "The Hobbit" but I really wanted to see Gandalf thank Gwaihir. I always had an image of Gandalf bowing infront of the great eagle, thanking him for the rescue. So I decided to draw it out. I kept the dwarves as in the book, with the colored hoods, because of the wide shot ( you really couldnt tell whos who otherwise). Here is a link to a bigger pic and the other Tolkien things I did in the past. And as always, thanks for looking http://s773.beta.photobucket.com/...90040740471743337614

There definitely should have been at least a Thank you muttered by each of them as they were released. I like the drawing and most of all the sentiment behind it.

Nicely atmospheric. Good color. Particularly excellent light on the mountains. What medium is this? (looks like it could be oil, pastel, or painting on Photoshop)(I do some painting on Photoshop but prefer watercolor and line on paper). I must point out the Dwarf design for the films; (I am still mindblown by the awesomeness of it). The main point is the silhouettes of thecharacters: each one is recognizeable by the shape of his hair/beard/outline. I have a swell T-shirt that has the Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf, just as face silhouettes... and not the actual face, just the hair/beard (and weapon). Very recognizeable. Now, I was wondering how they were going to get down off that pinnacle. I see you've added stairs!
Go outside and play...
