The original plan was for our research group to have a blog and twitter account. [In reply to] Can't Post

That was a bit optimistic. Because of the lack of bandwidth, I think we'll be lucky to do anything. If I can get internet, I'll try and write a post while I'm away. I doubt I can upload any pictures while there, but I'll be posting them all when I get back.

Seriously, I hope you'll step out in front of the webcam and wave every now and then. Or hold up a sign reading, "Tolkien rules" or the like Wink

Since I won't be here in twelve days (have places to go and things to do of my own, although nothing so spectacular as yours) I'll go ahead and wish you a great trip now. You'd better bring back some photos and stories for us!

Cool Note the 3D glasses!

I am hoping for a geeky observation list before AUJ leaves the theaters but it sounds as though you are far too busy to compile one!

Perhaps a caffeinated drink is in order?

On another note - " 'roids " conjures a completely different association in my mind Unsure , but glad to hear you're no longer suffering steroid-induced side effects!

Love Don McGlashen, especially in his Front Lawn Period (with Harry "Isildur" Sinclair).

Another gorgeous, clear sunny day here. The garden is so lush that I almost fancy I can see it growing.

I made that no-resolution resolution some years ago - it's still going well! I make plans, but not resolutions. Plans get modified, not broken. :)

That sounds a rotten cold. Get well soon, Altaira and BG.

Coffee time...

If I can get the internet, I am definitely going to arrange (on here) a date and time to stand in front of it with a "Tolkien rules" sign. Brilliant idea. Maybe I could attach a sign to a penguin as well. Wink

I think the 4-day boat trip will involve many a story. Crazy

Have a great weekend Lily, whatever you get up to.

Happy 2013, everyone! It's high summer here and the hottest I can remember in my 8 summers here so far. It's nice to finally have a proper summer. Pretty sure I can see the grass, and the zucchini in the garden, growing if I sit still long enough.

We had 11 chicks hatch under two hens yesterday, and Eldarion and Little Eldarion are thrilled with the new arrivals. Little NZ Toddler is more thrilled with the cows (not ours, just here to keep the grass mowed in the paddocks).

Other than that, I've given up all pretense of not being completely smitten with Thorin. Fortunately NZS is humoring me, but my mom (currently living with us) is another story. *sigh* I'm working out all the ways I can go see AUJ again without having her think I've gone over the edge!

*wanders off to dream about Thorin a little bit more*

Yeah i kinda bigged it up [In reply to] Can't Post

It is dental surgery but everyone knows most go into general dentistry rather than genuine surgery as that is where more jobs are - still its a possibility.

Oh and when i was regularly lifting 700lb i was not that ripped, but i was pretty darn big - i lifted for strength and muscle on a split rotation but it probably is boring to anyone but meat heads, lol. I got ripped after my dad talked to me about my health as i was getting a lil too fat (some fat can help you lift more weight and at the time, i cared more about how much i could lift than how i looked/my health) was stupid but im glad i did it at the same time.

I would love to learn Spanish - my step mum speaks Spanish fluently - something thats handy in SoCal!

Oh high blood pressure, i am sure it will come back down. At our age we can give our bodies a bit of a beating and come back. Taking out caffeine and lowering sodium will do wonders even before the running. I have naturally low blood pressure so i have kinda abused that recently what with the terrible diet i have been on.

Sorry for confusing you with dentist and surgeon, its just technically i am, lol, but everyone is like 'yeah, sure you are', lol.

Oh what is Rosetta Stone like for learning Spanish? I have heard its a good way to learn and could be something to get into if it works well and is relatively cheap.

Spanish and whatnot [In reply to] Can't Post

First, my diet is just completely destroyed from going to school. It's just not been a priority while I'm trying to get through school.

Here's to both of us getting control of our health this year! *raises glass of water* Wink

I'm only just getting started with Rosetta Stone, and so far most of it is stuff I knew from high school classes. But it seems to be progressing quickly, so I'm hoping it's as good as advertised. I'll let you know if it works well. I have a Mexican aunt who speaks fluent Spanish, so I'm hoping to be able to use it with her. And of course, it will always come in handy in the nursing field.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).

the week of 40+ days we just had for a little bit of cool.

We're chuckling a wee bit over the east coasters moaning about the hot temps, they weren't terribly sympathetic when we were enduring it all over Christmas and New Year. EvilTongue

It cooled off for two days over here but it's heading up again, not used to these sorts of temps this early in summer, much more common in February and March.Unsure

You and Peredhil lover!

She's been complaining that their winter is too warm, worked out she was talking about it being 14C. Told her that's a rather cold winters day here.

Mind you I was also holing up from 40C outside at the time, so 14C sounded rather nice Laugh

Btw do they do your temperature readings in the shade like they do here? Never quite understood that one...

*Stumbles toward kettle* Wow, that was busy [In reply to] Can't Post

The past two months, that is. Good busy, but goodness! it's taken a few days to recover from all that busy. So much so that my post is getting horribly redundant, vocabulary-wise...

The short version: all had a marvelous time, including our family's two holiday-birthday kids (my niece and my son); there were no major illnesses (only a slight cold among some of our number); and our family's broken appliance tradition was upheld this year by the fan in the main bathroom, all the kitchen and laundry-related appliances being of recent enough vintage to understand that their going kaput would be highly suspicious, to say the least. As all the adults pooled our resources, all four kids had a very Lego Christmas (my own two can now vouch for the impressive detail of the big Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle and TH Bag End).

No resolutions for me, just a growing resolve as I work on life stuff like good health and good income. On those notes, there'll be a Walk to Rivendell post up some time this weekend, and I'm pulling together an application for an adjunct position in the Philosophy department at the university near here.

Best of the New Year to you!

- Ara, who is going to get breakfast now Smile
