The news that The Hobbit was being split into three movies was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but perhaps the best part about the announcement was the fact it meant we will get to see "The Battle of Five Armies" brought to the big screen. The Battle would have been shown, whether there was just 1 films, 2 films, or 97 films.

that the BoFA would have been large enough in the two-film version. Now it has the potential to be too long, I think. Honestly, endless fighting gets boring rather quickly. But since everyone seems to be getting their own hero moment, perhaps it won't be too bad. I don't know, we will see.

I'm hoping we get more background into the other races, maybe more info on Moria and also a final connection between LOTR and Hobbit, more detail on Sauron etc and his dominance in Mordor that Frodo has to endure.

Many have complained.. "WE don't get to know 7 of the dwarves yet?" 13 in total so...5 featured in TH1... 5 more in TH2.. 3 more inTH3.. That... makes perfect sense.

For some reason my Macbook shuts off the instant I click on any ComicBookMovie links. I've had this problem with other sites as well.

The news that The Hobbit was being split into three movies was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but perhaps the best part about the announcement was the fact it meant we will get to see "The Battle of Five Armies" brought to the big screen. It hasn't even been shot yet, but talking to Empire Magazine recently, Richard Armitage had this to say about the battle sequence. "It's been put aside until next year, thankfully," he joked. "It's this big thing looming over us. I'm predicting about ten weeks for the shoot because it's an extensive battle and each character is going to have their 'hero' moment on the battlefield. It's a manic fight in the air - the eagles are fighting bats - and on the ground, and I can't wait to see what Pete does with that." That's right, the battle will see men, elves, dwarves, orcs and eagles all facing off for the future of Middle-Earth! It falls to second unit director Andy Serkis to handle the action, but he isn't letting the pressure get to him. "It's going to be intense beyond belief. It's going to be extraordinary - that's all I can say."

This could possibly be one of the best cinematic fantasy battles ever brought to film - it could even surpass Siege Of Minas Tirith/Battle of The Pellenor Fields. It will truly be an epic battle - can't wait for the 'Eagles vs Bats' dogfight!

I've been saying this for a long time! The BO5A is far superior to Helm's Deep or the Siege of Gondor.

And after seeing Thorin, Fili and Kili on the big screen I am now sure that those three characters deaths will be really heartbreaking!

Pelennor fields or Helm's deep in the LOTR book has nothing on Battle of Five Armies, they are totally bland in comparison. BOFA has such a great emotional impact, with the sad fates of Thorin, Fili and Kili and all. What really happened at the battle of Helm's deep? Heh, not a lot. Some wildlings and Uruks attacked a dreary Rohan-fortress and eventually lost the battle, all the heroes came out on top without as much as a scratch. Meh.
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

The Battle of Five Armies is much superior to the LOTR battles! It is yet another reason I always preferred The Hobbit to LOTR! Most on these boards tend to be LOTR fanatics and that's o.k. I am as well...but The Hobbit has always been my personal favorite of Tolkien's works. So much for Jackson and company to work with in bringing this awesome battle to life on the big screen!

including the Dol Guldur storyline and everything makes The Hobbit superior to LotR in my opinion, but the tone in LotR makes that BOOK better than The Hobbit for me so Storywise: The Hobbit > LotR Bookwise: LotR > The Hobbit
