rate the film from 1 to 10 Can't Post

I have just seen it in 2D, 24fps and German synchronization (which sucked big time, but I am seeing it in 48fps on Saturday, and in English 2D on Monday) and I just thought about how I would rate the film from 1 to 10 and couldn't really decide. I might just have to see it 2 more times again, especially in english of course, because it just felt odd with the bad dub.

So, how would you rate the film?

A solid 8 [In reply to] Can't Post

As a first movie of 3 it contains a lot of setting up for the rest of the films. But it is a very good first movie.
(I saw the 48fps 3D version and found the new tech great)

To compare, my rating for LOTR trilogy is:

FOTR: 10
TTT: 8
ROFK: 9

6.5... I have very mixed feelings about it [In reply to] Can't Post

Firstly, it was an amazing expirience, the 3D 48 fps worked great made me forget where i am and shall become the standard for movies to come! The effects were solid, i LOVED Gollum, the story was well adapted, character development was nice although way too sharp with Bilbo... But the content was missing, i could only count three sections that i actually was exited viewing. Also, there wasn't too much music.

Pessimists have no disappointments.

Same here, man... [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm hoping to get ratings from people like me (not a die-hard purist, but not really a casual fan either).

I know... it's a rarity. lol

I've seen the 24fps 2D version and I give it a 7 [In reply to] Can't Post

It's really a kid movie in my opinion, even if Riddle in the dark was exellent. I look forward to the change of tone in the next two films !

because I have only seen it once and have to watch is several times before giving a final judgement, so I'll say 7 because I am sure it won't be beneath that! Smile

I have mixed feelings as well. [In reply to] Can't Post

Critics were wrong, the movie isn't too long, and the beginning isn't tedious. Actually, the beginning was the best part. But the rest was pretty disappointing. Maybe it'll get better on subsequent viewings but right now i gotta say the magic is totally gone and the attempts to get some emotions out of the viewer fell flat. Bilbo didn't get much to do as soon as they go on the journey, except that signature troll and Gollum scene, he's just kinda there, staring and reacting to things. The music was disappointing, too. A lot of recycling and the heroic version of the misty mountain theme (whenever the dwarves fought) i felt was cheesy.

What's with all the 7/10's!? [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm assuming, coming from posters on this board, that they would give the same lessened grading to LOTR because it doesn't follow the book close enough.

I hope that's the reason.

so [In reply to] Can't Post

so a Tolkien fan likes the first hour while most of the film buffs and critics much prefer the next two when the action picks up?

well, since i'm both Tolkien fan and film enthusiast, i'm feeling good about my chances of liking this movie overall!

i already know i like the music, hard to imagine it's used so poorly in the movie that my opinion on that will change too much.

Ehh...I think we've seen enough reviews to know the general verdict. [In reply to] Can't Post

Not on par with LOTR. A general disappointment. Unsure

There are a lot of people who like the film, but I'm not sure if anyone loves it. I've read maybe 1 or 2 glowing reviews. The rest are lukewarm to negative...but...

HAVE HOPE!!!!

I never expected it to be as good as LOTR. It just needs to be a good, fun movie. If it's faults truly keep it from being good and fun, then we have a problem.

understand but... [In reply to] Can't Post

I know too that the tone of the movie will shift in a more darker way like Lord of the rings...the first part was always meant to be more childish and its perfectly fine with me! I'm sure its more than the average fantasy...but the real thing i think is coming with the second one and the third one! I predict that i will resonnate more with the other two...and the first one will be a good start! In a whole...i'm pretty sure that i will be another grand achievement by PJ and crew! Smile
