Can anyone identify whether this scene...(spoiler) [In reply to] Can't Post

was in AUJ? I found these on the vlog #9 (about 9:38), and they sure look like Balin and Thorin, but from the past.

The Necromancer [In reply to] Can't Post

How far is he featured in AUJ? I've read different answers to this question so... perhaps there is someone who really did see the movie yet untill I'll watch it tomorrow.

Did he only appears as a bad feeling of Radagast when he visits Dol Guldur? Is he featured with a kind of physical appeareance? Is he like a Nazgűl in his spectral form but black? Is he a black shadow? Someone called him a black ghostlike figure without much to see except his red eyes. Someone already praised the work of Benedict Cumberbatch as the Necromancer... so? Any answers?

Questions [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi, I am new to this forums and just wanted to ask some questions (I will not be able to watch the premiere) to ease my wait.
1- I know this subject has been treated before, but my question is a little different: in Azanulbizar, żare there some nice shots of random dwarves and goblins killing each other, or is it just Thorin kicking some ass and some of his buddies in the background? I ask this because the LOTR battles were amazing with this stuff.
2- Does somebody says : "An unexpected journey" somewhere during the film?
3- Do we see Thrór, or any mention of him?
4- Would you say that at least one action sequence in the movie is of the same length and choreography quality than, say, Amon Hen, or Balin´s tomb? I know it is a very general and subjective question, just wanted to know your opinions.
5- Do we see Radagast fighting?

Thank you in advance.Angelic

Inquiring Minds Want to Know [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks to all of those folks who have seen the film and are willing to entertain those of us who simply can't wait.

I have tickets for HFR/ 3D this Friday at 4pm. Until then, a few questions...

Necromancer
1) In what manner of form does the Necromancer show up in the film? I have heard that Radagast sees "a wraith" emerge from a tomb in Dol Guldur. Most have said that it appears to be a Nazgul being raised from the dead. Others say that is the Necromancer. Is that the only potential view of Sauron or is there another scene where it is clear that we see the Necromancer in some fashion?

Azog
2) Does Azog actually appear as a fleshed out character or just a foil for Thorin? The story of Azog is so rich in the canon and I would hate to see him become another Lurtz.

Trolls
3) Does Gandalf keep the trolls talking like the book or does Gandalf just show up and save the day with his rock smash?

Songs
4) Are there any songs sung by characters throughout in the movie (besides the Misty Mountains Cold) that were in the book?

Thranduil
5) Do we get to see Thranduil? I hear that we do. In what capacity? How do they work in his cameo during AUJ?

Thanks so much!

You can easely find the answer in the previous treads. [In reply to] Can't Post

Anyway,
The Necromancer is only depicted as pitch black human shape. In the obscurity of a corridor. We can see his red eyes for a second or two. He is featurless.
I dont even know if they needed Cumberbatch to mocap that very very short scene.
You see much more of Gollum in the prologue of FotR than the Necromancer here.
My guess is that the design is not yet locked.

So not a spectral form (like a Nazgűl) because he is quasi featurless)
Not a black shadow because there is some physicality to its presence.
But in the same time it is not a physical appearance, more like a void.

But in the end the thing to keep in mind : It's a very very short appearance.

I know... and [In reply to] Can't Post

Because I asked this already and I saw different answers from different people.

So he appears as a shadowy being with red eyes... hopefully not so Voldemort-like (as in the first Harry Potter movie) hmm does he notice Radagast? And does Radagast feel that this is the source of evil?

It is more a void than a shadow, but a void in human form.
Yes he notices Radagast.
Yes Radagast feels that this is the source of evil and flee right away pursued by a swarm of bats.

Lots of questions [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes. There is a lot of arerial shots, made with Massive, but with a level of details that allows the camera to come really close to the action. An it is intercut with close ups of dwarves and orcs fighting. The battle scene is not long it is just a recollection, told by Balin.

2- Does somebody says : "An unexpected journey" somewhere during the film?

Not that I recall. But it appears as the title just after the prologue.

3- Do we see Thrór, or any mention of him?

Yes we see thror.

4- Would you say that at least one action sequence in the movie is of the same length and choreography quality than, say, Amon Hen, or Balin´s tomb? I know it is a very general and subjective question, just wanted to know your opinions.

I am tempted to say that the battle with the Trolls is similar to the battle in Balin's tomb. Because there is a sens or urgency, panic and some team work.

5- Do we see Radagast fighting?

Yes. He fights back a wraith.

Is that the only potential view of Sauron or is there another scene where it is clear that we see the Necromancer in some fashion?

The Necromancer is the Necromancer and the Wraith is a Wraith.
We see what seems to be a Wraith attacking Radagast.
We see the Necromancer (a pitch black human shape)

Azog

2) Does Azog actually appear as a fleshed out character or just a foil for Thorin? The story of Azog is so rich in the canon and I would hate to see him become another Lurtz.

Azog is as fleshed out as Lurtz was in FotR. At least his name is spoken. But AUJ is not the end of Azog, so...who knows what's left in store for him.

Trolls

3) Does Gandalf keep the trolls talking like the book or does Gandalf just show up and save the day with his rock smash?

It is Bilbo who keeps the trolls talking. Gandalf shows up just in time to save the day.

Songs

4) Are there any songs sung by characters throughout in the movie (besides the Misty Mountains Cold) that were in the book?

There is another song, sung by the dwarves. And the Goblings are huming a few rhymes.

Thranduil

5) Do we get to see Thranduil? I hear that we do. In what capacity? How do they work in his cameo during AUJ?

Thranduil appears for about 5 secondes in the throne room of Erebor whit a diplomatic retinue. And later for 15 secondes, at most, witnessing the aftermath of Smaug's attack.

Note : I have already answered to four of this questions. Please read the previous treads before asking something... Smile

(but as you can see I will still answer, so don't be shy...)

Great! [In reply to] Can't Post

I feared they would show Sauron as a boring black shadow in human form. But the fact that nobody is able to describe what they saw made me hopeful! One of the moments I'm most excited about.

In less than 24 hours I'll have my own impression of him!

Few questions [In reply to] Can't Post

1) How much dialogue would you say the Great Goblin has? Does he speak more than in the book, where he's dispatched pretty quickly?

2) Does Bifur speak any Khuzdul in the film?

a little bit more than the book I would say, but not much.

2) Does Bifur speak any Khuzdul in the film?

Just one or two lines, early on in Bag End I think, to Gandalf maybe?

Not that much. [In reply to] Can't Post

How much dialogue would you say the Great Goblin has? Does he speak more than in the book, where he's dispatched pretty quickl

I felt he was under used. But the whole Goblintown sequence has been apparently streamlined to a point were it is only about the escape.
So the Great Goblin makes two apparition. Both with several lines of dialogues. But a few sequences that we know have been shot are missing here.

2) Does Bifur speak any Khuzdul in the film?

Yes. Bombur doesn't have a single line of dialogue, but Bifur speaks khuzdul during the unexpected party. Just one line of dialogue. For comic relief.

Gandalf's motives, Bilbo/Thorin relationship [In reply to] Can't Post

Sorry if anybody asked those before, I read the other threads (interesting read for sure), but it was a lot and I might've overlooked it.

1) Since Gandalf's fear of Sauron using Smaug can't be used, was he given any alternative motive for helping the dwarves beyond thinking getting rid of Smaug would be a good idea?

2) Do you feel that the added Thorin/Bilbo-scene at the end will take away from their character arcs in TDOS and TABA? It seems a little too much too soon for me, but I obviously haven't seen it, so..

3) A silly one: Is the "hoot twice like a barn-owl..."-line in? It's one of my favourites :D

Thanks a lot :)

From what I've read they don't know who the Necromancer is yet [In reply to] Can't Post

so without the knowledge of him being Sauron to me that fear would seem quite a stretch...
