 Six new clips have surfaced from The Hobbit all at once. These aren't TV spots, and they're not teasers. They're full-on sequences of action and dialogue lasting for as much as a minute and a half. It's so revealing that your head will spin. See as much as six minutes from The Hobbit right now. Warning: some heavy spoilers. We're not kidding here.
NB: Many people sent us links to these clips earlier. Until now, we have held off posting at the behest of the filmmaker. These clips, hosted on EW.com are official, posted with permission of the filmmakers themselves. Go ahead and freely enjoy.

in the dwarf arrival clip there is a tune that plays as Gandalf pops his head down. when I heard that on the empire soundtrack stream I just knew it had something to do with Gandalf. it seems like it could be derived from the fellowship theme.

Sorry, I tried to put a link here but the video is disabled. TORn had Howard Shore's "Radagast the Brown" track on their site, and the music when Gandalf peeked in is also from that track. So it may also be a Wizard theme.

Seeing these the reality really hits home. It's going to be just what I had hoped it wouldn't be. Way over the top, basically comic book style cartoon-like movies. Completely and totally different tone and style from the the trilogy in pretty much all aspects.

Goblintown is just like the Ents attacking Isengard but this battle is below ground. Orcs are thrown all about, lots of wooden constructs, cool camera angles, fast moving.
Nothing in any of the other clips is different from anything I've seen in LOTR.

but I'm very glad I did slip and watch a few of them. They really, really, excited me and I feel like I'm finally confident that I will enjoy the film.
Sure, it's a bit more silly than Rings, but isn't that the tongue-in-cheek charm of The Hobbit? That's what I found when reading the book, anyway.

Loved Gollum. When he started asking if it was juicy, that was just chilling.

I just assume because of the fact it's heard way more throughout the entire score than just on the beginning of "Radagast the Brown" that it's more directly associated with a leading role. And in that video it's definitely hinting at Gandalf, we shall see

My guess is that this is a "Gandalf and Bilbo" theme. Aside from the start of Radagast The Brown (as mentioned above), the other place I hear it a lot is in Bag End; possibly the quiet scene where Bilbo is recovering in his armchair and Gandalf is trying to talk him into going on the adventure ("the world isn't in your books and maps; it's out there!"). It would be interesting to see whether there are any pre-echoes in the Gandalf/Bilbo scenes from LotR, but I can't do that right now. It does not play in the clip where Bilbo is presented with Sting, however.
If the bit in Radagast the Brown plays over a conversation between the two wizards, then I'd have to revise my opinion and say it's a "quiet moments with Gandalf" theme.

It is not an exact match, but much of Dreaming of Bag End is very similar to this motif, rhythmically at least. So another possibility is that this is a Bag End theme. The mournful version that plays when Gandalf appears could be because now we know that Bilbo will be leaving his home. The version in Dreaming of Bag End is more whistful and; well, dreamlike.
And of course it could also be that the actual dream is only a little piece of this track, and he's talking to Gandalf for the rest.

The melody I referenced from Dreaming of Bag End is all over the last couple minutes of Axe or Sword too. I can't conclude anything from that since I still don't know where that track goes, but I'm leaning away from this actually being the same theme as the one that plays when Gandalf peeks in, though maybe they are meant to be related.

LOL. Super-hero-stud-muffin-man-looking-lady-killer Kili blocking arrows with his sword (and ladder!) like Wonder Woman with her magic bracelets is a perfect example. The laughably ridiculous rope bridges (and bottomless pylon wooden ones too!) all over goblintown. The whole goblin town clip was a gigantic over the top cartoon-like clash. Ents are huge and extremely strong so they should be able to knock much smaller orcs around. Dwarfs? Not so much... The hilarious winding of the swinging orcs on ropes around the falling bridge was straight up cartoon fare :-D . Should I go on? Watching that clip actually made me think of the the "door chase" in Monsters inc

Now I have nothing against cartoons per se, (in fact I love many of them), but I was kind of hoping for something a little more down to earth and at least semi believable for The Hobbit(s). I have had a long time to brace myself for the inevitable since the goofy looking dwarfs were first introduced though, so we shall see. I'm still trying to get myself to come to grips with the disappointment of knowing these films will be nothing like what I would have strongly preferred. I really don't like 3D much at all so I had planned earlier on seeing a regular 2D showing, but now that I have such little enthusiasm for the movie itself I'm thinking maybe I'll just go see the full boat 3D with HFR just to experience that and see how it turned out...

The goblin town looks exactly like the wooden structures all around Isengard buried in the ground. The dwarfs used leverage with the beam to knock the goblins off (which is actually pretty damn clever) and Kili deflecting some arrows isn't any more over-the-top than anything Legolas did in LOTR like prancing around on top of trolls and giant elephants. That stuff was fun back then and it's fun now, in my humble opinion. Sorry you don't like it, I think you're missing out.
