Dean O’Gorman on taking risks, 'hot' dwarves

Haven't seen this posted before but it covers aspects of O'Gorman transformation to Fili, including the way Andy Serkis helped him getting used to the whole production: O’Gorman credits Serkis, (...) with helping him make the adjustment. “The first person I worked with was Andy, (...) so it was a way of easing into the process. On the topic of 'hot' dwarves he sais: “I think that’s pretty relative,” O’Gorman said, laughing. “I mean, we’re a company of dwarves. The bar’s not set very high…" http://herocomplex.latimes.com/...&dlvrit=57774#/0 edit: could it be that the pictures are new as well? Seems like the one from inside the ANZ plane is new

I imagine it was harder for him to settle in than the rest of the cast

What, with Fili being recast a couple of weeks (I think it was this long) into production, the Bag End stuff already being shot with Robert Kazinsky, who had to leave the role. The other Dwarf actors had a few weeks of training and bonding before shooting started.

that the recasting hasn't been mentioned in any of the mainstream media yet amid this Hobbit hoopla - there were stories at the time, but nothing during this latest promotion surge. Remember how often the pre-FOTR media stories mentioned that Viggo was a late replacement? Yet we've heard bupkis about Dean's late call-up.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. But they really hadn't filmed anything of the dwarves yet ... had they?

Townsend was dismissed a couple months after shooting started if I remember correctly wasn't he? That might be the difference

is that during the premiere, Dean and Aiden talked about Dean's casting and how they played off one another. Yet nothing was said of his replacing Rob Kazinsky. Odd.

In the recently released Rivendell still (among the others), Kazinsky can be seen as Fili in the background!

Aragorn holds a larger part in the narrative than Fili

While the preliminary reports suggest that he's far from a background character, Fili just isn't as important right now to warrant stirring up news about him or his actor. If Freeman had been replaced as Bilbo (or had replaced someone else), I can guarantee it would have been mentioned often.

It's as if Kazinsky never existed on the set, when we know he was filmed at the Bag End dinner scene.
