It can't be that complicated. It's a fun, adventure story. It's not meant to be Crash. Or Lincoln. Devin Faraci echoes what another person has tweeted, that they are having a hard time writing their review. I wonder if its because of the HFR 3D messing with their heads during the screening? Not able to focus on the movie itself perhaps? This could be a disaster for WB and New Line if so...God I hope I'm wrong.

Lukewarm or - God forbid - negative reviews would put such a damper on my enthusiasm. So, if anyone should miss me (yeah, right), i'm fine, just on hiatus.

Faraci?? Thats his Tweeter? Didnt notice. I really dont like him. So pretentious and cocky. If he had to eat his own words now that he saw the full film at 48 fps, that would make my day.

equals greater satisfaction! I'm hoping that by the time the movie comes I'm not too hyped up and the film fails to meet my expectations. Better to have lower expectations and be greatly surprised.

Isn't 3 December the day that reviewers can publish? We're 10 hours into 3 Dec here. *drums fingers*
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." I think I would rather not witness the battle. Guess I am too much of an hobbit at heart that I just don't want that excitement. I'll just sleep the night off and in the morning be done with it. I hope everybody remembers that even if the movie fails to impress the critics, it will still be a blast for fans.

"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!' Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face. 'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''

...it's getting raves from those that went to the premieres, but uncertain reaction from critics...I don't want this to be the new Twilight Saga. Fans love it, even though its horrible...

The first series I was a big fan of - the original Star Wars - wasn't critically acclaimed. A more recent example would be Taken 2, doing great in the box office despite being panned by critics. People know what they want and I feel some here are putting too much stock in critical reaction, probably based on the critical reaction of LOTR. That said, I don't think The Hobbit will suffer too much at the hands of critics.
-Tim came by. Tim! If you had heard only a quarter of what I have heard about him, and I have only heard very little of all there is to hear, you would be prepared for any sort of remarkable tale.

...maybe he gets caught up in the hype, and then gets disappointed easily. Ten years ago, it was a lot easier to be pleasantly surprised when you went to the theater.

The Hobbit has the unfortunate task of having to live up to the Lord of the Rings. When FOTR came out, it was mainly compared to its main competitor at the time, the first Harry Potter movie, and it was an easy victory. AUJ unfortunately will be compared to FOTR and the rest of the trilogy rather than any other competitors out there at the moment (most of which it would probably easily be superior to). The movie could be as good or almost as good as any of the LOTR movies, and yet it might still not get the same amount of good reviews and recognition simply because of how high the expectations are. That's why I wouldn't get too depressed even if some of the reviews are negative. Of course if it gets universally panned then that's bad, but I doubt that will happen. Mostly likely the opinions will be mixed though. Anything following up something so widely loved and acclaimed would face that problem.

I saw this Puerto Rican critic replying to Brian Duffield and had a look at his twitter feed here: https://twitter.com/MarioAlegre If you scroll down you can see he liked the film and described it as "harmless fun overall", with PJ back in his comfort zone, though he thinks some of the action sequences were a bit over-indulgent and is concerned about the two follow up films.
