A Message from Richard Armitage. Can't Post

Richard Armitage thought of his fans just as he was about to set out on the Red Carpet and posted a message through Annette of RichardArmitageOnline:

Message from Richard Armitage, 28th November 2012

Dear Friends,

So I am sitting in my hotel room from which I can see a very long red carpet and The Embassy Theatre. I am nervous, excited and quite emotional. The day has arrived when we can finally present our work for everyone to hopefully enjoy.

I wanted to say thank you for the continuing support that I receive from everyone who visits Annette's brilliant site, and those others which have popped up over the last few years and months. It means so much to me to have that support. I truly hope you all enjoy The Hobbit, I tried to respect the responsibility that taking on this role presented to me. My fellow cast members are all spectacular in the story and we send out our work to you in the hope that you can take your friends and family to see a great event in the cinema.

I look forward to saying thank you, at the various premieres over the next few weeks.

See you on the Red Carpet.

Much love
Richard

Armitage <3 [In reply to] Can't Post

He seems like such a great guy. To me he is a perfect cast. The vision PJ created for him seems just as good as the one from the book.

Richard Armitage = Pure Class [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm certain RA's reputation as a sweetheart of a guy factored into PJ's picking him for a part in the Hobbit. As Peter has mentioned in the past, if you have to work with someone over a really long period, he'd really rather it be somebody nice. Well, I guess you hit the jackpot with Mr. Armitage, Peej! Watch North and South to balance out the image in your head [In reply to] Can't Post

And then for some over the top fun in the middle of N&S and Spooks, watch Robin Hood.

And when you have a spare moment, try him in Vicar of Dibley. The series finale with that last end of the episode joke with him is a gem. But I think you have to have a sense of how those end of the episode jokes worked and of the characters - at least the characters of Geraldine and Alice - to fully get how perfect it was.

He doesn't need The Hobbit to be awesome. He's is awesome already. :-)

Those of us who read in threaded mode click on the subject line of posts to read them. It's always easier to hit a word or number of words than a few little dots. :-)

Robin Hood was terrible. But sometimes, terrible is fun and it can be fun for watching RA, imo.

And VoD isn't the showcase for Richard. Notice I listed North and South. That's the one to watch.

But, being a period costume drama with a bit of angsty, suppressed romance... perhaps that's not to everyone's taste. But I love it and - watching him over a number of shows - I love Richard.

I'm not even sure I'll like the Hobbit but I'm counting on liking Richard. He can't fail.

Just curious [In reply to] Can't Post

Why being in Spooks makes him annoying?

Is it the show, the character, the actor or ??? that is the problem?

RA is indeed one of the classiest and nicest actors I've seen. [In reply to] Can't Post

Every interview with him has been extremely sincere and intelligent, with no empty PR talk but genuine insight into his thoughts about his character and the film.

I'm not yet sure whether his vision of Thorin coincides with mine, but I'm very excited to see what he brings to it regardless.

not that he is annoying [In reply to] Can't Post

i didnt say it makes him annoying,

i meant annoyingly whenever i hear him talk or see him in a scene im immediately reminded of spooks, just because i watched the show, and at the moment cant separate the two in my head!

and ill say it again,. thorin should have a proper beard!

these are just my gripes, if your cool with it, im jealous!

And do you remember, Daniel, [In reply to] Can't Post

how PJ had to defend his choice of Armitage because there was such a great outcry against him?

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/...-hobbit-casting.html

PJ's unfortunate use of the word "heartthrob" made it even more difficult for him.

In fact, I remember some members of TORn trying to organise a petition to get him the sack. No wonder the poor man said recently that he didn't unpack for weeks because he couldn't believe that he had got the job.

The proof of the pudding is when we all go to see the film, of course, but the signs are good.

It makes me feel young. :-)

When I want to kill time while tending dinner or doing dishes, I check out what's on Roku/Amazon Prime. I've been tempted to rewatch Robin Hood just for Richard's sake.

I have some music from North and South that a fan pulled from the series - since it was never released on CD. And just thinking about Richard makes that theme music pop into my head. It was fit the mood of the show so much.

Don't worry, jimmyfenn, [In reply to] Can't Post

once the story starts to roll you'll become immersed. I have a similar problem with Martin Freeman because he always plays himself and, having this sort of hobbitty personality is presumably why he was chosen. However, I'm worried that I will only be able to see Watson or, worse, only Martin Freeman. But I know that once the film starts, I shall be OK. The thing with RA is that he doesn't play himself and so projects a different image every time. In the end, it might prove a bit harder for me with MF than for you with RA.

This "Klingon" thing started with Thorin's initial image which has completely changed. Too many people think they have such a good joke there that they are hanging on to it even though it's no longer appropriate.

But, I shall be really interested to hear back from you once you've seen the film. I shall watch out for your comments.

At the risk... [In reply to] Can't Post

of causing total meltdowns, I have to ask if you two have seen him reading children's bedtime stories on the BBC's Cbeebies show? If not, you must. Who wouldn't want him to read them a bedtime story?

Story 1

Story 2

Story 3

Story 4

Story 5

RA fans aren't the only lucky ones - Doctor Who fans can also get their fix. David Tennant has done several, and Christopher Eccleston, John Simm, and Alex Kingston have also done stories for the bedtime hour.

I have a bit of the music on my Zen [In reply to] Can't Post

but I put the video on anyway.

Margaret comes out of her train car and looks around....

the other train pulls up and we see John in the window and my heart leaps and I giggle.

Oh, I got it bad for that movie.

I like the top comment for that video. :-)

(on a side note... I'm trying not to think too much about the end of "The Hobbit" in terms of Thorin)

And lest all the men reading this think this is all just feminine hormones... it's not *just* feminine hormones. Watch that man act in that scene. We love that character because of what Richard the actor brings to it. It's especially impressive, from a more detached viewpoint, when one compares this role to his role in MI5/Spooks. And even Robin Hood and Vicar of Dibley. Those roles all allow us to see a broader range of what he can pull off quite convincingly.

Was that a Welsh accent he used in a couple of those?
