WOW.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Radagast looks AMAZING in this picture. I'm not a huge fan of the bird poop, but the rest of his design truly makes up for it. IMO, Radagast is one of the most satisfying looking characters in these films (so far).

I love it! Especially that blue crystal-thing in the middle or whatever it. I'm starting to have high hopes for Radagast.

If Radgast dies, then you won't have to look at it again. Evil

And something happens to Bifur's axe.

Perhaps that's part of the plot [In reply to] Can't Post

It's not the poorly hedgehog that makes Radagast realise of the growing evil, it's actually the burst water pipes outside his house.

An "Orcs at work" sign might give it away. Wink

Hi ho hi ho it's off to work we go.

It would be a great contrast to the dwarves singing in Bag-end!

Completely agree [In reply to] Can't Post

I actually could live with the bird poop, but the axe in Bifur's head would have killed him. And if not, he'd at least be so infected that he would have died of that.

The crystal on his staff [In reply to] Can't Post

does Radagast have different crystals he puts at the top, because there is another shot of Radagast in the magazine in which the crystal is blue not green.

I have to say the printed pictures in the Empire look gorgeous, there is Gandalf standing right next to Radagast in that cropped pic you posted, and you can really see how silvery his silvery scarf really is.

And in the pic with the blue crystal, the detail in Radagast's robe is amazing, you can see all the beautiful patterns in the fabric, it must have looked quite regal before it got all worn, torn and dirty.

Suspension of disbelief [In reply to] Can't Post

Isn't that what fantasy is and what hollywood is about? Bifur's headaxe I think is a comical take on his character and it could make him very interesting. We shouldn't be worried about whether a character is going to die from infection. Youre thinking too hard about it. This is hollywood.

If you need real life stories to connect there are people out there living with foreign objects in their bodies (ex. bullets, surgical tools, ect) who have not died from infection.

Anyways, the way I see it is this: Holy cow, hahaha, that dwarf has an axe in his head and he is still alive!? He must be tough and have a thick skull! What is his story? How did it happen? I wouldnt mess with him, it looks like he's been to hell and back! He's definitely seen his share of battles. At the same time, I feel sorry for him.

I personally think it was a creative approach to the character and something new I havent quite seen before, and I like it. Bifur is the "Dopey" of the group, a bit off, but perhaps in the end, quite loveable.
I do think its funny to see people having a reaction to his headaxe, I think thats what Weta wanted, it creates interest and chatter and most of all, a memorable character. Cool

suspension of disbelief [In reply to] Can't Post

It sounds stupid in a movie with elves, a magic ring, giant spiders, dragon, a man who can change into bear form etc but the axe in the head to me is just not needed.

It doesnt break my suspension of disbelief as there are reports of people who have metal rods going through their head etc and survived.

What it is though is distracting. It's visually offensive to my eyes, lol. I think the character design is good enough not to need an axe in his head to be interesting.

Its interesting to see how people read things though. You look at it and think lots of things - how is he still alive, he must be strong, tough, how did it happen etc. For me i look at it and think - this looks stupid. For me he is certainly memorable and people seem to either love it or hate it which i think is a good thing normally for movies/art in general. Its creative but i think it just doesnt work so im in the dont like camp, lol. Balin's jacket on the other hand, love it! :P

Even though i dont like it i have a feeling that once i have seen him on screen a few times i will begin to forget its there - thats the plan anyway.

nice opinion [In reply to] Can't Post

Well said. I can see why it would be visually distracting to people. That makes sense. It could also be we've seen it in stills, and its easy to judge something that literally sticks out.
