Exclusive: Scans of The Hobbit Playing Card Deck!
|
Can't Post
|
|
Thanks to our friend Ringer Pousette, we have a very special visual treat to start your weekend. Pousette has had a chance to get their hands on an early release of The Hobbit Playing Card Deck and was kind enough to send TheOneRing.net the first exclusive photos of the new imagery contained within the deck. While all of the images are impressive, check out specifically the Joker, Three of Hearts and Six of Hearts. The photos are after the break and feature spoilerish content - so proceed at your own risk! And of course, we will alert you as soon as we can on where to order your own copy! And of course, let your voice be heard in our comments and forum on what you think of this playing card deck. SPOILERS! [gallery link="file" columns="4"]

Naw, they are not as beautiful as the LOTR ones with Alan Lee drawings... these were awesome. (Oversized image removed - Ataahua.)

http://www.theonering.net/...t-playing-card-deck/ Grinnah(?) actually looks pretty good here, better than the BD figure. Fili seems like a potentially very fun and engaging character, (kind-of an anti-Thorin in certain ways, much lighter and less grizzled) and pretty heavily featured - yet for the advertising had largely focused more on Kili...Fili seems like the interesting one! Like the look of Dwalin's torch here, as well.
My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit" 5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck 4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot 3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan 2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate 1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

That Alan Lee set seems to be a premium set

There were LOTR playing card sets that featured images from the movie. It would make more sense to compare this set of The Hobbit playing cards with that LOTR set that featured movie stills. I can't easily find a pic on the web. I'll see if I can quickly dig out my set and see who made it. edit to add: hmmm... I don't have the set I thought I had. At least it's not where I thought it was. It's possible I'm thinking of a set I found for sale after ROTK (when merchandise was discounted) but I didn't buy. Or it's possible my memory is playing tricks on me.

It was not for sale, except in the limited wooden trilogy box from (iirc) Thailand and... well, I got one for working for WB at the time.

(i.e. the ones I own) where prettier than these Hobbit playing cards. It's not that they're ugly.... Btw those Alan Lee drawn cards are pure unliteral gold.
But every word you say today Gets twisted 'round some other way And they'll hurt you if they think you've lied

It is the best one I haves seen. Truly terrifying. I hope it is one that gets some of the most prominent featuring in the film, along with the white chieftan of course. Maybe this will be the chief of the independant wargs, while the white giant is a chief of the orc mounts. I'm impressed. "Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

In the Hobbit the river isn't called anything and I just finished re-reading it and I'm not very good with Middle-earth geographical names if they aren't in the movies. But yes, whatever the name of that river is, I'm thinking it might be that one, but I really have no idea!

I love the goblin in this picture! And I also like the two where Bilbo and/or the dwarves are hiding behind things.

Dwalin and the light interests me. Is this pre-Quest or during-Quest (maybe Mirkwood or Erebor?) Great Goblin looks great!

Or in the troll cave? But would he be carrying around a lantern like that on the journey? Unless he finds this lantern somewhere, my guess is that this is from a flashback.

There's that wide shot from (I think) Scene 88, where both are present.

By which I mean, this shot (though granted, that seems to be behind-the-scenes stuff, rather than actual film-footage). I think this new shot might be the first shot of them directly interacting though, I think. Kind of cool seeing that, actually; The interaction, dwarves between, isn't something we've seen that much of. I know I had a similar reaction to that first shot of Dwalin and Balin in Bag End. And yeah, there's definitly some family resemblance there.
