Frodo looks great! Even less innocent?
I can not guarantee his safety - understood... Nor will I be responsible for his fate - Doh!

Most likely Bilbo being dropped in the big pot of soup or something of that nature. Love the shot of him smoking his pipeweed on a wonderful day....NO THANK YOU, GOOD MORNING!

about the perspective in the shot of Gandalf and Bilbo. It seems very obvious to me that Martin Freeman is not a hobbit.

yes he may not look EXACTLY like he did TEN YEARS AGO, but who does? We should have just CGI'd him

I thought it might be Glamdring. Hard to tell but that's the first thing that came to mind.

they resisted using de-aging CGI I guess I can't complain. It's not that he looks older, so much as hungrier.... like he should after his experience with the Ring, rather than before. A different lens could do that. Perhaps it's just a weird angle. I wonder how much prep he did for the roll? It's got to be hard re-inhabiting one's former skin given all that has happened since the last time.

and point out that the arrangement of the actors works against forced perspective -- even their eye lines suggest they are of similar size. Gandalf's proportion to Bag-end seems off as well.

He looked like that in the production video too. I think he definitely looks different, and I think Old Bilbo looks different too. Something about the wig I think, rather than the faces? @There&ThereAgain: yes he may not look EXACTLY like he did TEN YEARS AGO, but who does? We should have just CGI'd him Who does? It works for me. It is certainly not the sort of jarring, laughable (or lamentable) stark contrast that sometimes happens when they try to pass an actor off as a younger version of themselves. he looks quite different... ugh this is going to be harder than I thought. "Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Is this troll snot idea? Where did it come from? I like these shots. The cinematography in the completed ones (I think the Gandalf and Bilbo/Bag End shot is behind the scenes) looks, to me, noticeably better than it did in the trailers.

with the abortive 1960 rewrite, wherein Tolkien was toying with the blades being begrimed as an explanation for why Gandalf couldn't read their inscriptions.
