http://km-515.livejournal.com/1042.html Oldest and Fatherless: The Terrible Secret of Tom Bombadil Feb. 20th, 2011 at 2:19 PM Inventive speculation on the mysterious "man" like being known as Tom Bombadil or Iarwain Ben-Adar. I don't agree with it but it is interesting to see how there are many possible viewpoints.

And have just read it again - and I still have the same view. The article is full of fluff. They provide plot holes and continuity errors as "evidence". I don't agree with the article, but someone sure did have fun writing it!

Well, that is certainly an appropriate article for this season...

...painting Old Tom, as it does, in an almost Lovecraftian light. Tom Bombadil as a Great Old One?

Fun speculation if otherwise. If Tom was a bad egg we would know. Primarily he would have taken the One Ring and used it as the quest was not set then and only a fools hope would have deemed it possible to suceed if it was known at that time. Barrow Wights.....he must be havin a laugh, they came out of the north guv, and had nuthin to do with old Tom in their origin. Most offensive in the article is the claim that Tom is apparantley the LOTR's equivalent of Jar Jar Stinks. I've never read anyone saying they hate Tom before this load of old cobblers.
