I think she's awesome, and I love belting out her songs along with her. Pandora led me to the Vitamin String Quartet, who cover rock songs (like "Bad Romance"), and I love them too.

I heard a recording of Vivaldi (4 Seasons, Summer) that practically made me jump out of the car when the basses joined in! I'd never heard such power in Vivaldi before. Makes me wonder if he conducted his works that way or not. (Oh for a time-traveling microphone!) I didn't hear what group it was--I may have to call in and find out!

Ben Folds Five - Sound of the Life of the Mind

BF5 reunited recently and recorded this album. It's growing on me a lot. You can tell the difference between this and Folds' solo albums, and it mostly feels closer to the last BF5 album (Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, from 1999) than any of the Folds solo records. This is a good thing in my opinion. As part of this, they made a music video for the song "Do It Anyway", featuring the Fraggles from the Jim Henson show Fraggle Rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEyrfFwf3rI Also along with this I've been going back to other Ben Folds albums, both with the Five and without. My favorite BF5 song is maybe "Smoke" from Whatever and Ever Amen, or "Don't Change Your Plans" or "Mess" from Unauthorized Biography.... The only BF solo album I really liked was his first after the band, Rocking the Suburbs, though I never did hear Lonely Avenue and maybe I should. In any case, until 1.5 years ago I'm not sure what my favorite BF solo song was; since then it's been "Still Fighting It" from that album. (It's about his son; it's the first song I listened to after finding out my wife and I were going to have a boy.) As far as the new album goes, I am liking "Erase Me" and "The Sound of the Life of the Mind" and "On Being Frank" and "Draw a Crowd" and "Do It Anyway". That's like half the songs, and really I am liking the other half too, so...
For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams

I’m especially fond of The English Beat’s version of Tears of a Clown. As great as the original is, the EB put their own stamp on it in such a fun way. Here are some favorites related to your choices: Over The Rainbow/ What a Wonderful World medley - Israel Kamakawiwo’ole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9b3_1CcXtY Peter Gunn – The Blues Brothers I Fought the Law – The Clash (written by Sonny Curtis from the Crickets, made famous by Bobby Fuller Four) I Can’t Get No Satisfaction – Otis Redding We Can Work It Out – Stevie Wonder (Beatles) Got To Get You Into My Life – Earth Wind & Fire (Beatles) Some others: Take Me to The River – Talking Heads (Al Green) The Joker – Fatboy Slim (Steve Miller Band) (the song doesn't start until about :36, but the kittens are cute) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLwg48WQ6e4 Higher Ground – Red Hot Chili Peppers (Stevie Wonder) Just Like Starting Over – The Flaming Lips (John Lennon) http://www.youtube.com/...&feature=related Lean on Me - Club Nouveau (Bill Withers) My Funny Valentine – Elvis Costello (written by Rodgers and Hart recorded by many, including Frank Sinatra) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-8nRiyrIAk Stardust - Willie Nelson (Hoagy Carmichael) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1XyiIrrjcw And what about less famous original versions (or inspirations for later hits): Blinded by the Light by Bruce Springsteen later made famous by Manfred Mann http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Iaca30QbOo&feature=related Bruce’s version has twice as many verses, much wordier, but is two minutes shorter LOL. It has a stream-of-consciousness, jazzy feel that is more upbeat. And, maybe it’s just me, but I didn’t realize Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise was based on Stevie Wonder’s Pastime Paradise. Both are great IMO. Pastime Paradise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wHnkQuY1cY Gangsta’s Paradise http://www.youtube.com/...&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRbd12Sv1Ak "Neil Young" singing Whip My Hair Back and Forth so (seemingly) sincerely and plaintively just tickled my funny bone. Then Bruce joins in...priceless I'd seen the others, too - and they are hilarious, but this one kills me.

It put me in the mood for Chris Cornell's Bond tune "You Know My Name" from the movie Casino Royale. Other than that my listening choices seemed to be determined very often by what the kids want to hear. Been listening to the latest Veggietales tune, "The League of Incredible Vegetables" by the Newsboys quite a bit lately. A tune you just can't seem to get out of your head! Oh well, such is motherhood.
Did ya get him? I don't know, but he was limpin' when he left. He was limpin' when he got here!

I would never have guessed that I would like Jimmy Fallon much considering his propensity for busting up in every single SNL skit, but his stuff on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon is consistently hilarious.

When I'm at work, and I'm allowed to listen to music, it's usually radio. I've recently discovered "Mumford & Sons", and I think they're worth listening to, currently trying to find more material! Other than that, it's almost all kinds of music, from classic to hardrock.

And I adore snow, although I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands saying so! I even like shoveling the walk . . . It's in the 60's and low 70's here, much warmer than normal, but cooling down, so I guess there is some hope . . .
