Do you like soup?

Clearly a very important poll. Are you a fan of the sloppy, tasteless water-y stuff, with as many ingredients as possible chopped and whizzed into a blend of yuckyness? Even the word "soup" isn't nice! Or do you prefer drinking the horrible stuff, instead of eating real food?

Stew is a difficult one, and for me, I think it depends on what kind of stew it is. I'm not a fan of beef, so beef stew would be a no go. Chicken stew is lovely though. Is chili con carne a stew?

thanks for noticing on the 'c' thing. lol (which I didn't make up) I made some sort of sweet, spicy black bean soup that didn't really work so well as a black bean soup, per se. But, right after making it, I got really sick with this flu thing and drinking the broth from that soup gave me such happiness. I threw the recipe out and couldn't find it later (on the internet) when I decided I really did want to make it again. My beef stews are kind of soupy - that is, the broth isn't thickened. But there isn't a ton of broth in them so they're very chunky.

There are so many wonderful kinds. My favorite has spinach, garlic, and fresh basil, but there are many others. It's also very easy to make "leftover soup" using a broth or tomato base and a compatible set of leftovers,

counter-descriptions of our yummiest concoctions/family favorites? Like: Steaming, simmering, spoon-standing thick pot of hot tomato sauce, stuffed with pinto beans, chili peppers, shredded roast beef and chunks of Sweet Vidalia onions. Or: Clear, savory, deep amber spiciness of chicken broth, dense with matzo balls, soft carrot chunks, egg noodles, fresh peas, and tender bites of celery. (Sounds like a bad commercial, but my mouth is still watering anyway . . .)

The closest I get to soup is Ramen noodles or Spaghettios. Although, I did have a potato soup (once!) that I liked.

I love soup if it's so full of what my mom used to call "goodies" that it almost stands up to a spoon. Like when a soup recipe turns into a casserole. Now that I'm a vegetarian, my favorite is my home-made chickpea-noodle soup :-) My dad used to sing this song, to the tune of "Hail Hail the Gang's All Here": Soup, soup, we all like soup! Never stop to strain it, Tip the bowl and drain it. Soup, soup, we all like soup! Any kind of soup will do. (and for dessert:) Pie, pie, we all like pie! Apple pie or cherry, Peach or huckleberry. Pie, pie, we all like pie! Any kind of pie will do.

replacing the beef with chickpeas and olive oil, but keeping all the rest the same (onions, carrots, potatoes, etc.) It's fabulous! We make it and beef stew side-by-side to satisfy both Uncle Baggins and me, and he tasted both and said he couldn't tell much difference.

A stew or broth is much more filling and is one of many things that makes winter the best season for me :) Some favourite soups - chicken, tomato, mushroom, potato and leek. The only one i dont like is lentil soup - tastes furry to me, though i havent had it in years so may love it now :P

I like potato, leek and tomato soup - even better if the veges are from my own garden. Pumpkin soup is also a favourite. Stews of all kinds are also good in winter! I will also put leftovers into the food processor and make soup if there is no other way to use them, I hate when things go to waste! Even if it tastes gross, I'll still eat it. I am obsessed with nutrients.

I have ramen noodle soup quite frequently and the mac and cheese I make might be more like a soup. Soup is a great place to put leftovers. It is also a bit on the inexpensive side - or tends to be. I like it more during the winter.

Must be true what they say about English cooking . . . I adore soup. I pretty much live on it in the winter. Some of my favorites include - Moroccan tagine (really a stew) made with lots of strange spices, lemon peel, almonds, and raisins in addition to the meat and veg. - African ground-nut soup as made in Cote d'Ivoire: basically, a chicken soup with onions & carrots, but then you stir in some peanut butter and cayenne pepper. Eat over rice. - Tortilla soup - start with the basic chicken soup but add Anaheim peppers, cayenne, & cumin. Enliven with lime juice. Crush some tortilla chips into a bowl and pour the soup in. (You can cheat and use chili-lime chips to flavor it up.) Garnish with a dollop of sour cream. - Butternut squash soup garnished with caramelized onions and candied pecans. - French onion soup - thick onion soup placed in a bowl, with a piece of bread on top and then a BUNCH of gruyere cheese on top of that, broiled in the oven until the cheese melts and goes all crispy. - Around here we eat a lot of clam chowder. The right (white) kind. LOTS of clams, potatoes, and you must have a bit of bacon in for the right taste. Finished off with a bit o' cream. - and that American standby, beef stew with lots of carrots and potatoes.
