Hmmm... [In reply to] Can't Post

Bolg's face looks stitched together, as well. Could it be that Yazneg is the "flesh avatar" that we'd seen in the Games Workshop list from a while back, and one of those faces is the one he wears to become Bolg? I've been suggesting something similar for a while now. Out there, yeah, but I think there is something unusual being drummed up among the Azog/Bolg/Yazneg characters.

Man is but an ass if he go about to expound this dream.

Connection [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree that there will be some connection linking those three orcs, but I think the iron plates on Bolg's head are just holding the tattered scalps on. I think Yazneg, not Bolg, will be Dol Guldur's torture expert, and that he will flay his victims alive. I think perhaps he himself is the result of a flaying, resulting in the pinkness. But perhaps there is some sort of necromantic art involved in it. Yazneg's frill thing makes him look sorcerous. Perhaps Sauron will be dubbed the Necromancer not because he reanimates corpses, but that he and his servants perform some sort of hideous rite with the remains of the prisoners? I just don't think Bolg & co are zombies.

Bolg's day job is torturing.... [In reply to] Can't Post

Quote
Bolg is the offspring of Azog the Desecarator – like his father, he is huge pale orc. He is the overseer in the dungeons of Dol Guldur – torturing is his hobby. He garnishes his armor with the bones and the blood of his victims. This husky Orc fears nothing and nobody – until he suddenly meets an unexpected opponent.

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

DLB, did Yazneg get a description as well?

While I'm intrigued by the character of Yazneg and what the heck he's all about... I'm even more curious about where the heck this action figure picture came from! Is that a sneak peek at wave 2 of The Hobbit toys from The Bridge Direct?! If so, I want to know more!!!

I've just been scrolling through the images again. Looks like they also note the likeness between Gandalf's FOTR staff and Radagast's TH staff.

The beard looks rather fake to me [In reply to] Can't Post

My mad theory is that he scalped a dead Dwarf (taking both the hair and beard) and consequently wore it from then onwards to intimidate his enemiesLaugh

The goblin/half-orc designs [In reply to] Can't Post

If that is what they are, are pretty fantastic, IMO. They all look great - especially Grinnah (like the simian arms, which Tolkien describes) and Yazneg (love that costume).

The only stumble, IMO, is Bolg. Decaying Thunder Cat.

love the weapon of Fimbul, very unique... and I love his design in general. [In reply to] Can't Post

they're giving these Northern Orcs (not the goblins) very shamany-tribey-savage appearances, and I think I'm beginning to like it!! Cool

The Warg is awesome and furry too. So hound like... which is good and bad I s'ppose.... better than Hyena-like for sure!

we can't really tell if Fimbul's half orc... .... Bolg, who's certainly not half-orc is very similar in stature to Fimbul, so I'd say that he is simply a strong breed of Orc // [In reply to] Can't Post

Northern orcs [In reply to] Can't Post

I feel like the fur-and-bone vests and boots worn by these northern orcs was definitely designed with wargs in mind; it's very reminiscent of the riders from TT. Makes sense for Fimbul, and works for the others seeing as they're Necromancer-toadies.

The warg toy looks very impressive, in terms of the design. [In reply to] Can't Post

I hope the film versions live up to it. And, even more so, to the depictions DarkJackal posted of the second wolf from the Annual.

"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!"

"Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."

Orcs are not necessarily descended from elves [In reply to] Can't Post

In terms of book canon, that is. Tolkien never settled the question.

PJ has Saruman state the elf-origin story unequivocally, but one can always assume that Saruman was simply speculating.

LOTR orcs were often described as quite hairy, so I wouldn't object to beards.

* Doesn't match his hair colour.

* Has a rather sharp line where it attaches to his face.

I'm buying into the sewn-on trophy theory.

I think it would be pretty cool if it was a Dwarf beard that he puts on as a trophy. We already know from the description that he wears bones as a trophy.
